Description I recently retrieved some of my old work files from when I was still with IFS so I decided to share some of them here with you.

This is one of a number of plate illustrations I did for Osprey Publishing's Osprey Adventure series. This one in particular is for their book, Knights Templar: A Secret History . Pls note that although these works may seem somewhat historical they're mostly fictional in nature.

Jacques de Molay, Grandmaster of the Templars, was sentenced to death by burning at the stake. The legend goes that he cursed both King Philip the Fair and Pope Clement from the stake, both of whom died within a year of de Molay's death. Done in 2013.

I'm assuming since both King Philip and the Pope died soon after that God was listening.

♐️They were not just knights in shining armor. They were warrior monks, knights in the name of the Catholic Church. They did not deserve their downfall. The rumors that they did many acts of blasphemy could not have been true! Why else would God fulfill the curse, punishing the cunning king and the traitorous pope in less than a year? Unlike the pope, Jacques de Molay was a true catholic.

No, it wasn't true.  It was fabricated evidence so the Pope and King of France could get his hands on the Templars' assets.

(I believe) the Pope was a friend at the time. The King wanted the secrets. The king was also "heavily indebted to the Templars".  (Makes you wonder how a king could be indebted to them).

♐️You don’t have to tell me. I know that the king persecuted them to escape his debt and blackmailed the pope into going along with it.
Are you Catholic?⛪️

I'm not Catholic, but I do like history and I think the Knights Templars have been unfairly viewed throughout the centuries.  In the "Assassins Creed" universe, they are viewed as the bad guys who want to take over the world, just like the HYDRA group in the Marvel comics.

Who really has the evil power? At some point, you have to forget about what people say and follow your heart. Who would you trust a child with for a week, the High Priest of a Royal Arch Mason or a priest from the Catholic church? Evil does NOT exist in a Masonic Lodge (because it can't). But obviously it exists in the Catholic church. 10,000+ abused children and $4 billion paid in settlements so far. And that's just the past 50 years. (Just saying). I remember hearing one of the abused saying his priest liked the deaf ones because they moaned louder. Now that's just evil. And then "Canon law" gives the Pope the power to sentence him. OMG, he could be "defrocked" by the Pope, the worst sentence possible...which means the pedophile priest gets put on "Church house arrest". How bad can it be? Now THAT'S power.

♐️I think that they used to be like their real life counterparts in the games’ universe, but when they found out about the First Civilization and Pieces of Eden, they became the bad guys we know them to be.

try reading about them in Assassin’s Creed Wiki

Geez! What a way to go. Why were they burned!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragonlord-Daegen In reply to A-Gray-Phantom [2016-06-04 17:30:41 +0000 UTC]

they were burned because in the years after the crusades, they grew to be a powerful order they had so much influence that they tried to break away from the roman catholic church....

and due to the fact that many monastic orders of knights (including the Templar) never had any official allegiance or obligations to the crown, the king was afraid that they would overpower both of them.

so they plotted to get rid of them, claiming that the Templar were guilty of all sorts of things, from hoarding wealth and treasure (witch was against the code of their own order) to treason,to even heresy and witchcraft!

during the middle ages, the latter crime would almost always constitute being burned at the stake....

many history books ive read would say that the pope "formally disbanded them" when in reality nearly every one of them were hunted down and killed.

....all because of paranoia and greed

Well, treasure grabbing on highest Niveau, but Templars did not everywhere get burned or tortured. Like in Germany, where some even appeared fully armed and geared up, mounted on their horses while attending public trials.

I've heard similar stories like this - during certain public trials of Templars, groups of fully-armored Templars would show up on horseback, armed to the teeth and ready for battle, the unspoken message clearly being: "You'd better not find our fellow brother Templars guilty because if you do we'll kill you!"  Naturally, those presiding over the trials wisely took the hint and the Templars were found not guilty... no-one wanted to cross warriors that were the Special Forces of their time!
