Any Mongol fans here?This one is of Batu Khan and a small group of mongol scouts scoping out the Hungarian camp under cover of darkness. He finds, to his pleasant surprise, that the Hungarian forces have packed themselves in like sardines in a fortified camp of wagon trains. To the mongols this is pretty much handing the battle over to them because the Hungarians have opened themselves up to be completely surround by them with no avenue of retreat, which was exactly what happened to them although they did put a stiff defense initially, to their credit.

In this case only hungarians. Battle of Mohi (or as we, hungarians call it, Muhi csata) was a devestating defeat for the hungarian nobles, the king BΓ©la IV. hardly survived it himself. He escaped across the Adriatic to the isle of Krk. After the defeat it took decades for the Hungarian to regain its strength, if it regained it at all... Third of the nation was slaugthered, died of starvation or became slaves for the mongols, or as we call it (TatΓ‘rs).

They won against hungarians as well. They devestated the country in the years 1241-42 so badly, that Western European monks wrote, that after three centuries Hungary ceased to exist.
There are different estimations, but most say, that 30-50% of the population was massacred or enslaved, the low lands of the country were homelike grounds for Mongol forces. Quite a sad turning point of the hungarian history, if You ask me.

Yep, that's true. Could've been a much better ending for us, but history doesn't care about "what if?"-s. May our ancestors souls rest in peace.
Your picture is great! Once, You could paint something like this, about the magyar hordes, during the Xth centuries. Our name was feared then: "Sagittis hungarorum libera nos domine"

Im a mongol artist who is really interested in medieval warfare. And i study lot of my own cultrue. So here is my few cents on this.
For the heavy infantry the full neck armor and wrist armor is missing. For the foot archer, His left arm must have it's sleeve tied, becus it tends to get in the way of arrow. Their coats dont split in the middle. The mongol coat is not usually this long, it is long up until little below the knee for easy mobility and faster mount. The leader should also have Wrist armor. Other than that, It truly rocks. Their helmets and overall are truly faithful.
