I am very impressed with your digital painting skills, it makes me want to learn how to do digital painting...however the softwares are sooo expensive, would you recommend any particular painter program over another??

I use Photoshop and Painter. Painter is the cheaper of the two but still fairly expensive.I much prefer Photoshop and because I'm so happy with it don't know much about cheaper programs. I've just read about some in Imagine FX magazine and it does have demo versions. Art Rage 2, Digital canvas, Project Dogwaffle

That is great to know that you can accomplish paintings as beautiful as yours are with photoshop!! I have only tried painting a couple times over pics, so I have not yet experimented to I am sure the programs full potential....however I have a friend who says I should get the corel painter.....but I think I will just have to play around more with what I have!! Thank you for the reply and the inspiring artwork!!

Just to correct you a bit, I don't paint over photos, these are now all drawn freehand and painted from scratch using the photo only as reference. I got a real critical mauling on my cgsociety gallery because I had traced only the outline of the main features in the early paintings before doing the painting, so since Lisa02 they have all been drawnfreehand.

Oh, no correction needed, I fully assumed yours were freehand, I just stated my experience has been over photos!! sorry for the confusion!!

Holy bejeesus... you did that in Painter? O.o Wow... just.. wow. I'm trying to get to grips with that program again, and the damn thing fights me no end, so I'm doubly appreciative of this image. The depth of field is amazing, and no mean feat. And this particular model really appeals to me.

I found the wet acrylics brushes in Painter and could work really well with them. I'm still not sure about Painter though - I feel much more at home with Photoshop and I'm discovering you can be just as painterly with it - even if it's not as spontaneous as Painter.
