Oh very nice, the background was a nice add indeed. I guess this is the final version of it. Overall it looks pretty good.
The paining of the trees look amazing too. If you don't mind me asking, how exactly do you do that? Did you use some kind of special brush? Same with the clouds too? And also I assume you used some kind of texturizer for the background? Or is that the original paper?
All in all, looks good, Chun Li's coloring doesn't really fit well with the background, I think the background looks way better than the drawing of chun li lol, but that's just me.
Keep it up!

I didn´t use a brush (don´t know how to make them for SAI). Instead, I did the the trees in a similar fashion to a brush (I will explain in the next paragraph). The clouds I painted manualy.
Okay... for the trees... well... I started with 2 petals (sounds crazy... but it isn't). I made copies of these petals and joined them into 3 different flowers. Repeated the process to create groups of flowers. Repeat... and repeat until you get branches... (it takes a lot of time to get it right).
Anyhow... thanks for the comment.

Yeah... the background texture is made with three different textures:
- a paper one (need to find the link from were I took it).
- a colored watercolor one I made with come filters.
- and some stains I added (there are more than just the ones from the top left corner), yo give a little more vintage feel to it.
I'm using an older version of this wallpaper, in which there is the paper texture on the character (I forgot to save a copy of it... --'). That texture eliminated some details on her face... so I had to take it.
Anyway... I´m glad you enjoy it.

The background was outlined, not the clouds though, but the details were lost because of it´s size (because of the way I did it).
But I do agree with your opinion ( not satisfied with how both of them look together).

I really like this one, I think the composition works very well, in a horizontal shot with Chun-Li on the right leaving lots of room for the whole thing to breath. I like the warm and smooth coloring too and the trees look great. The only criticism i've got is personnal. I feel that the texture you applied in the background is too big, particullary oin the sky on the top left, and takes much protagonism. I would prefer something smaller/tighter. But it's a great work.

Yeah... I have a tendency for texture over use... I need to lose this habit.

This is beautiful! I like contrast of the detail of the cherry blossoms in the foreground with the softness of those further back.
I agree that her colors don't quite fit in with those of the background. Try softening them a bit, they are a bit too bold right now.
As far as the composition goes, I think it might be a bit better if her hand and bracelet weren't partially cut off. I would prefer if I could see the whole thing.
Great job on this one.

At first glance it looks beautiful, but a closer look reveals there is a sharp contrast here. The old-postcard look clashes with her appearance. The texture is distracting and it forces you to look beyond her rather than at her. You did such a great job on her; she should be the main focus.

Looks very good to me - I feel the contrast between Chun Li and the background really makes her stand out while making the background an interesting entity in its own right. You kind of end up taking time to really LOOK at the picture, and noticing all the details in both the girl and the trees. The whole thing also has a very appealing 'beginning a journey' feel that fits very well. I love it!

I love it, especially the detailed flowers on the cherry trees. The composition works very well and I like the contrast between the fragile flowers and the strong character.
The only thing that I would change is the texture of the background, at least blotches in the upper left corner.

Lol... I did use the stain texture a lot in this piece... I just didn´t soften those one on the upper left. ^^'

this came out amazingly. I have seen
the process this has went through and
can see your improvement with every
new enhancement. I love how you
turned this into a wallpaper because
this looks perfect for someone's
desktop.
I like how you emphasized the
shadows and highlights but softened
up the colours so that is adds to the
gentleness of the picture. and the look
on her face you were able to make
work with the picture by making a
rough texture and noise into the piece
without countering the soft essence of
the picture.
overall great job!
this came out nicely~

The composition is good, character, cherry trees and clouds fits together very nicely. I especially like the rightmost part of the image, the contrast between white cherry trees and the character is beautiful.
I really don't like the background texture. It's overwhelming, it flattens everything and replace any natural texture with its own. Texture just makes the piece look a bit dirty (if it was made in traditional media, it'd look like a coffee was spilled over the canvas).
The artwork would definitely look much better to me without any texture, or with a different, bit more subtle one. The background is very nicely done (especially the cherry trees), so really don't think you should be hiding it.
Other than that, it is very nice and balanced work.

Yeah... it´s hard to paint the background for another artist's lineart. But that´s because of different ways of drawing. ^^'

Wulf86 In reply to Wheatart [2010-02-03 00:13:46 +0000 UTC]
Kinda painted them... I didn´t use a brush to do it... but I didn´t draw each leaf (I "digitaly" cheated my way out of making each one).
What I don´t like about them is that I don´t think they look like cherry trees... there is something wrong with how I constructed them.

Hmmmm... you don't think they look like cherry trees. Have you looked at references to compare and see what is different?

Nope... didn´t use brushes at all. I did an explaination of the way i did the trees for (last comment this image received). You can take a look there... and if you have any further questions I'll gladly answer them.
