A panda's head clearly resembles a skull. How did the first people to stumble upon pandas not see them for omens of death?

I'm personally not a fan of pandas. Useless, cuddly, inefficient digesters of bamboo, incapable of prolific procreation, and attention whore while other creatures less appealing to the public eye deserve just as much conservation attention :I
