Well, Wyliman started as a true loser superhero thing, he had some sort of powers, and so did Mackenn, but as time passed by, the story and focus of the comic changed, but i still liked the design, so i kept the outfits.

Whee soy vidente viteh?

Ok, Mario, so now I, as a person that has a good background in literature, have to disagree. "Thinking for yourself" ans "quoting dead people" are not opposite things. In fact, most of the things "thought by yourself" have already been said by one of those "dead people", you're just ignorant enough not to know it. Without some knowledge from the "dead people" you're unable to "think for yourself". Bear that in mind.

Wyliman In reply to kbrandt [2007-10-19 12:29:00 +0000 UTC]
Yep, that's completly true, i know it perfectly.
I remind you that Wyliman is the one that's saying it, and in the context, he's just saying that on despite of what Mackenn has told him over the time, so it's bound to sound exaggerated and most probaly, wrong.
As much as this is a semi-biographical thing, not every single thing he thinks or says it's what i think.

Wyliman In reply to kbrandt [2007-10-19 19:35:35 +0000 UTC]
I'm guilty because i'm the guy putting those lines in his mouth. I perfectly know that without the "thoughts" of the past we can't think in the present.
But it fits the character. You won't expect Wyliman to really come up with a life revealing theory that it's accepted by everybody, it's not his character. Like it's said in the description (and notorious all over the comic), he's really dumb when he tries to be smart, like the "growing up" strip, like with this one, that's *not* the way of seeing and saying things.
And it's the only way he'll learn with time, like everybody does at some point of their lives, he, just take quite longer.
Arrogance and ignorance are never good together, that's very true.

kbrandt In reply to Wyliman [2007-10-19 20:03:10 +0000 UTC]
Problem is, that Wyliman words are some kind of general thought of most of "intelligent" people. Another point that people often confuse bravery and arrogance with real intelligence and knowledge, so he may pass with it without noticing it's bad.

kbrandt In reply to Wyliman [2007-10-21 17:23:48 +0000 UTC]
I guess being smart without knowing it, means he's not smart at all.

Wyliman In reply to kbrandt [2007-10-25 04:59:18 +0000 UTC]
Not really, he can be, he just doesn't really care if he is or not, he's just who he is, it doesn't takes or adds anything to him if he recognizes it or not. And being Wyliman he would probably spoil it (or make him less Wyliman for that matter).

kbrandt In reply to Wyliman [2007-10-25 06:52:21 +0000 UTC]
Which kinda means, you can't do anything with this character really... he has to behave the way he does, because otherwise he won't be Wyliman anymore. Silly comics with their non-developing characters.

Wyliman In reply to QwertyChris [2007-10-21 06:26:40 +0000 UTC]
Yep, he can't tolerate if this guy that's supposed to be dumb, is right about something.
Still, Wyliman can be smarter at trying to prove his points.

ohTHATsean [2007-10-19 07:40:35 +0000 UTC]
That's an interesting argument. I wonder if Mackenn is being closeminded to only quote authors without thinking for himself, or is it that he's just mad that Wyliman outsmarted him..
I'd mention the grammar error on panel three, but I've been beaten to it by quicker posters.

Lol, not bad at all. In the dead authors' defence, pretty much all of our mindsets are based on what they have conceived and have set mainstream.
But it's nice to see that the very same "it's true because it's old" that authors were fighting against (be developing new ideas) is being used against them, and against Mckann.
