Description Edit on 9/9/2009:
Thanks to =Keyafoxdoghanyou I've updated the code with some changes to the css that was necessary to fix a new bug. I don't know why it occured - maybe DA changed something that made it read the code differently? Anyway, it should be fixed now.
If you use this template it is adviced that you download it again and "re-install" it. You only need to update the css since there's no changes to the images, so your old links will work fine.
If you have any questions, as always, don't hesitate to ask.

<3
Erica

PS. The bug is only visible in Firefox - just in case you wonder why you can't see any bugs o.O

[EDIT]

This journal design was made before the new skins feature was implemented, so please be aware that you need to install the css manually to use it. It's not nearly as complicated as it sounds though XD

Just use the guide that's written on the preview image (above). The only thing that's changed is where you post the css code. Instead of CSS (beta) as it was called, you now go to 'Options' (a tab found in the top left corner of your new journal entry) and paste the css into the apropiate box. Remember to edit the links in the css to where you uploaded the images. And choose 'save as' :)

If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll try to help.

[UPDATES]

A slight firefox problem has been fixed - please download the code again for the updates.

I changed the file from a .rar to a .zip file. There's no changes to the code.

Yay! I finally finished it XD

Feel free to use it here on DA. Credit isn't needed - just don't claim that you've made it yourself. Faves and comments are greatly appreciated though ^^

Remember to read the instructions on the preview image. If there's something you don't understand or have problems with, just ask.

As with the old one, you must have your mood box at the bottom. Also, if you write shorter journals you should use the bottom.png image instead of jpg.

The old version can be found here: Blue Grass

Also, go check out `anaRasha 's and ~coolwing 's galleries - they deserve it ^^

Please fave if you download <3

Hey I'm new to creating journal templates and I don't know what I'm doing, I think I have made one but I don't know what to save it as can you help me ?

Not right at the moment - I have a lot going on with school, so I don't want to promise you that I'll help a lot. But "the old fashioned way" consists of a normal textfile (that can be called whatever you want, since you copy-paste the content into dA's journal system) and then the images, which you need to upload somewhere.
You can download one of my (or someone else's) designs and see how it's build as well as read the guide on how to use it - maybe that will also help?

(If I recall corectly dA made a more fancy system, but I'm afraid that I don't have much knowledge of how that works. I still use the old fashioned, manual method.)

That wouldn't be enough - you need the images as well. Maybe try downloading it from another computer/browser? I haven't heard of this problem before, so I don't know what caused it.

Hey, I faved your blue version and decided to try out this one first.
I have a quick question about the font: I opened the file from WinRar and it let me 'install' the font to my computer. However, when I try the

thing for titles, it's not showing up as your new font when I type it into the journal itself.

otherwise, the skin appears to work fine (though I did go through the comments for the direct URL tip, and that helped a lot). Thanks!

Hi,
Sorry for the loooooooooooooooong overdue response :S
I'm guessing you don't need help with this anymore, but if you do just write back.

lhinelle In reply to lhinelle [2010-12-06 20:32:39 +0000 UTC]

Ok, I guess my question relates to how to use your nifty font. The journal works fine, I just changed the top image and figured that the title and subtitle are meant to look like that.
Thanks again!

BittersweetMusic [2009-11-16 22:52:03 +0000 UTC]

I like this skin but I have no idea of what code goes in what box, where my journal text goes and so on. Help!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wyrdling In reply to BittersweetMusic [2009-11-16 23:15:33 +0000 UTC]

Haha, no worries ^^

When you click on "new journal entry" you'll see the Title and Content boxes (as well as the moods section). This is were you type your own text.
Then, if you look just above the Title bar, there's two tabs (you're currently on the one called Journal Text). If you choose the other one, Options, you'll get to the page where you can copy/paste the css to.
Also, don't worry about the text you wrote in the content boxes - it stays there when you change tabs (so just click on the tab called Journal Text to get back to it).

On the Options page you should put the css code in the middle of the three boxes.
Remember to put the links to your pictures in the right places.
Also, the top and bottom boxes - Skin Header and Skin Footer - works pretty much the same way as they did with the old journal (I don't know if you're familar with them?)

When you've put in the css and changed the links, it's a good idea to click "Save Skin" at the bottom. You'll get a pop-up where you can name it however you like. You don't have to do so though - I currently never save my journal skin, but that's because I change small details of it every time I make a new (that won't happen with this one), and the css you used in the previous journal is already there when you make a new journal. But, if you change between a lot of different journal skins, it's wise to save it (because you easily can use it again without having to copy/paste anything).

Anyway, when you're all done and set, you can click Preview and see how it looks. Just remember to go back to the Journal Text tab to publish it (or make changes to the text for example).
I hope this helped ^^

Just ask again if some of it doesn't make sense.

Zelkats [2009-09-22 11:09:45 +0000 UTC]

I would like to ask this before I do anything silly

I've been wanting to make a journal layout that suits my kind of art, but I'm no good at CSS. When I found Softer Dreams CSS, I felt it was most suitable.. Only that I would like to add some touch of my own art style to it. So, I was wondering if it's alright if I change the images of the header and footer. I understand if it would somehow put your designs to waste, as they are absolutely pretty. I'm just wondering if you would allow it . I would definitely credit you if I do use the CSS you made :3

Hope to hear from you soon!

Beautiful! I like how it matches the DA color scheme too, so it won't look jarring. Whenever I figure things out and get it up at least...

I'd prefer to credit somehow, however. I just can't figure out the coding to display your name and link it back to your userpage?

Oh I love this layout SO MUCH. I used the previous version of Blue Grass so I'm happy you made a "sequel" lol

I am having some kind of problem though, I can't get the bottom image to show up. I wonder what I'm doing wrong...X__x

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Wyrdling In reply to Tokisama [2009-03-23 06:56:18 +0000 UTC]

I think it might be because you aren't using your mood boxes? It's my best guess, but if that ain't it I'll try to look into it ^^
Oh, another thing. I'm guessing that you've used photobucket to upload the header image with the 'option' set to a specific widthxheight. You should use the last option (1 megabyte file size I think it's called) and then the background image will have the right size.
