Drawn for 's latest contest, with the intent of representing forest and excitement...but also kind of showing earth as well.

Our lake-mermaid friend here ((who needs a name)) enjoys leaping out of the water to surprise unwitting animals and even people. Her latest victim is a young stag who must be new to the area. Any other deer knows that a peaceful drink is pretty much impossible without being sneaky.
And no she's not trying to shove him into the water. >.>

For the record, I hate water now. The surface was hard because I had to get the colors and shading and reflections right. Then underwater was hard because I had to do that crazy wiggly reflection-pattern-majigger.

NEVER AGAIN. I HATE WATER NOW. Do you know how hard it is to draw something like this when you haven't been swimming AT ALL this year? Unfair.

Around ten hours of work in all plus one massive headace. Sketched and inked in my sketchbook and then colored in GIMP.

References for the water, the deer, and the underwater pattern thing were provided by many people and pictures. I can't remember them all, but I'm very grateful to them. :3
