Daeron-Red-Fire created a Shantae-in-Skullgirls artwork himself. I commented that it would be cool if she were in the game (in fact, I'd play ANYTHING with Shantae in it). However, seeing this as a stage in the game alongside my wish for her appearance would make my purchase of Skullgirls more worth the while.
As for Dareon-Red-Fire himself, you should see his Shantae-in-Skullgirls works. He's done two of them. I believe you and him BOTH did a really good job on making Shantae an "unlockable character". Sigh.... it feels good to find the best of both worlds, if you know what I mean.

I love fighting games. Skullgirls on the other hand needs to die horribly. It's a stupid pretentious game for hipsters that plagiarizes content from other fighting games and doesn't have a single original idea to its name.

Oh yeah Mike Z does take a lot of elements from other fighting games. But I'm sure there's a lot of fighting games that borrow elements from street fighter over the years.
However this isn't really an excuse to do steal, personally skullgirls isn't my favorite fighting game but I do believe they've done a few things to advance the genre a little. I for one have been waiting for years for a 2d fighting game that used HD hand drawn sprites (I do believ GG xrd looks better).
As for the whole hipster thing, the way i see it If a game looks good I'll get it, regardless of what the beliefs of the rest of the community are.

Numerous games have used HD hand drawn sprites. Such as KOFXIII, BlazBlue and SSF2T HD Remix. Skullgirls is not advancing anything, since they've been beaten by several years in the HD hand drawn aspect. In fact their characters are considerably uglier and have worse designs, they're fat blood-puking abominations that constantly mutilate themselves during their attacks. There is no mass appeal there.
No one can fault a fighting game for taking things that are ubiquitous across all fighting games (such as super meters). However Skullgirls quite blatantly steals things from other games, its game mechanics very specifically belong to Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and the characters do multiple attacks that are stolen from other sources. In fact the game has more stolen attacks and outside references than it has original ideas. I am starkly opposed to plagiarism of this caliber so I believe Skullgirls must not be supported.

Well 'sprite' isn't really the right word for what I meant. While large sprites aren't a new thing like you've stated, the characters in skullgirls are of a much higher graphical fidelity than most preceding 2D fighters. By that I mean they look like they are moving drawings rather than sprites.
I know the style of the game is not for everyone. But the game's art style appealed to me a very long time ago. Back in 2008 before skullgirls was a real thing, I had stumbled across Alex ahad's(the creative director) page on deviantart. At the time his art looked rather unique to me and I've followed a lot of his stuff since then.
Personally though only a couple characters actually appeal to me at all. But it plays very well and that's enough for me I guess.

Yeah KOF looks amazing too but I think you miss-understand what I mean by graphical fidelity, but anyway I won't say anymore about Skullgirls.
