Very cool zoology pic ! I've been wanting to try some out myself ! The drawing is nicely done. I think I might know where the BG oddness lies. Its probably cause of the colour change, its alittle too strong. Yellow and blue arent a very harmoneous match so where the sand hits the cyan sky the change is very dramatic. Maybe something of a more subtle colour change would help to make it more like a graded change. Maybe a sand dune with a desaturaed blue in the distance would solve that ? Great stuff those x-eevee !

thats a pretty good idea. I think there is a big contrast between some of the shades of blue too. Thanks for the advice.
As far as zoology pics are concerned... I find animals a bit easier to draw. I think I might be a tormented furry artist or something.. its a bit concerning really.
