Description
I was hanging out in the hammock going through my photos when I saw this guy wandering around. I’d met him a couple of times before (accidently scared him while climbing a tree actually), and like each time before he didn’t notice me. My dog didn’t really notice him right away either (poor girl is losing her hearing and got kicked by a cow and is mostly blind in that eye) so he managed to get pretty close until she noticed. When she did she checked to see if he would come closer before chasing him up a tree to protect me like she’d been trained her whole life (Such a good girl).
Anyways, the pisote clung to a branch and started yelling at her (rather funny actually). I tied my dog up to a post and got a few pictures of the pisote once he’d calmed down a little bit.

Coatamundi/Coati/Pisotes remind me a lot of raccoons, they’re scavengers and can be vicious, I think pisotes and raccoons are in the same family. Pisote is the local name for a coatamundi They travel in groups a lot and are quite prolific. They eat pretty much anything they can get their mouths on. They carry their tails straight in the air most of the time and have short, wiry hair. Their snouts are sort of like short elephant trunks, in that they can move quite a bit (I forget the word for that). The colouring ranges from dark brown and cream to black and white (there may be more, but this is just what I’ve seen). They move around mostly on the ground but climb very well and can also travel entirely in trees for distances.
