A Warrior charges to his grave,
his head high, his heart brave.
With laughter in his eyes,
he slays his foes as he dies.
A score he kills as his breath stills.
Living a slave, dying a hero,
his like will never be forgotten.

...Gah. The more I think about it, the more I realize that 'Martin the Warrior' was by far the saddest book in the series.
Thank you for putting the epitaph here! It goes very well with the picture. (Though I lifted the actual title from a line in a speech by Robert Emmet.)

Ummm, I hate to rain on your parade, but that epitaph isn't real...you probably knew that, though...

But it was a good bit of creative work to share alongside the piece. ^_^

It was... Dealing with death, they faced the most loss of any Redwall book. How I loved and hated it, knowing each time what would inevitably happen, yet hoping somehow it would change... A fool's hope, but still it lived.
It felt a fitting thing to write for such a proud, tragic character. Your line was well chosen.
