Description (This Redwall splurge has now gone on long enough to require a folder: [link] )

The title really should be "I am going to my cold and silent grave", but deviantART's title restriction wouldn't fit it.

But anyway, I'd drawn a sketch of Felldoh before, but had been unsatisfied with it: I wanted to try and capture his final scene, which was one of my favorites in Martin the Warrior.

It still didn't come out quite like I'd hoped it would, but this was one of those drawings that just need to be let out of the system. I do like his face, though.

Character belongs to Brian Jacques

Such a dramatic moment, I feel feel the surge of emotion and his determination. Lovely work, it is so wonderful to find good Redwall pieces, so I thank you! Very nice character design as well

WOW, awesome! I can't think of anything to critique... well, maybe I can: when I first saw this, I thought it was a fox. Then a wildcat with a very bushy tail. Then I read that this was Felldoh. So... try to work on making the characters seem more like the species they're supposed to be. But other than that, WOW, this is stunning work!

A Warrior charges to his grave,
his head high, his heart brave.
With laughter in his eyes,
he slays his foes as he dies.
A score he kills as his breath stills.
Living a slave, dying a hero,
his like will never be forgotten.

~Text inscribed by Brome upon the grave of Felldoh

...Gah. The more I think about it, the more I realize that 'Martin the Warrior' was by far the saddest book in the series.

Thank you for putting the epitaph here! It goes very well with the picture. (Though I lifted the actual title from a line in a speech by Robert Emmet.)

Ummm, I hate to rain on your parade, but that epitaph isn't real...you probably knew that, though...

But it was a good bit of creative work to share alongside the piece. ^_^

It was... Dealing with death, they faced the most loss of any Redwall book. How I loved and hated it, knowing each time what would inevitably happen, yet hoping somehow it would change... A fool's hope, but still it lived.

It felt a fitting thing to write for such a proud, tragic character. Your line was well chosen.

The tail needs to be Fluffier. BUT. This is still kick-butt art here. Felldoh, the first character to make me cry.

Great! Just great!

Squirrel tails are surprisingly challenging! I need to practice those.

Thank you very much.

Felldoh!!
Dammit, all the good ones die.
This is awesome, although the thumbnail looks slightly foxish.. might be the tail. D:
But nonetheless, I love the pose.

Yeah, I think I was stingy with the bushy tail.

Thank you!

The tail doesn't look quite squirrelly, but I love the pose. I think you captured him very well.

I tried to flatten the brushy tail out a little bit: does that look better?

And thank you very much!
