Description "...Screwtape."

I KNOW YOU KNOW THIS ONE. THINKTHINKTHINK.

COME ON, COME OOOONNN...

Anyone?

Haha, okay. *sadfais*

This was a quick little drawing I've been wanting to do for a while now, inspired by the great C.S Lewis' satirical novella "The Screwtape Letters."

The book is told in epistolary form: it is a series of letters written from an uncle to his apprentice nephew. Fairly normal....

.....Except for the fact that said uncle, Screwtape, is an upper level demon, and said nephew is learning the art of guiding humans away from God ( called The Enemy) and towards the Devil (reverently reffered to as Our Father Below.)
The letters are filled with Screwtape's 'advice', hilariously inverted religious philosophy and occasional ponderings as to why they do what they do.

I. Love. This. Book. To. Death.

I may color this at some time

(Character belongs to C.S Lewis. I AM NOT WOOOORTHY...)

THIS BOOK is my favorite C.S. Lewis work (or any author's work) of all time.

I was just listening to john cleese's reading of the book and I literally pictured him like what he is in your drawing: intellectual, snarky, and like a scholar. I almost must say he looks undeniably and strangely seductive.

I did a sermon series a few years back, written in the style of The Screwtape Letters. It made some of my congregation uncomfortable to hear me refer to Jesus from the pulpit as, "The Enemy." It was a series you couldn't listen to passively, since you had to essentially reverse everything you heard. It was a lot of fun for me, though. (People can Google "The Screwtape Sermons" if you're interested.)

Just started reading this book recently and I am in love with it <3 I enjoy your depiction of Screwtape, it's close to what I imagined: the scholarly, relaxed demon.

Thank you very much! I dunno if I'd necessarily want him for an uncle, though.

"Love you? Of course. As tender a morsel as I ever grew fat on..."

I LOVE THIS BOOK TOO!!! My copy just recently passed away so I had to run to Barnes and Noble and buy a brand new copy. The cashier was slightly disturbed when I skipped out of the store laughing insanely as I clutched the book like it was a briefcase full of cash.

My sister's school preformed this as a play. XD It's not an official play, mind you, because her Drama teacher just read the book and wrote a script, where people actually act out the scenes of what's going on with Wormwood and all that good stuff. Lolz.

Anyway, I really like this, Screwtape is a sexpot

One book I love is called "The Business of Heaven." It's a year's worth of daily readings collected from his various works, little reflections on faith.

He has such clear, precise a way of pinning emotions and thoughts perfectly... reading him is like having a conversation with a very good and clever friend.
