Description Alright...so I've been a fan of Sonic the Hedgehog for awhile, and I have lots of fan art in my favorites, but I noticed that I hadn't made any of my own fan art.

So......

Here's Knuckles the Echidna, depicted in a human form. Of all the Sonic Universe characters, I think I would have a secret crush on Knuckles and probably Sonic too. (I've had multiple crushes before).

I had fun drawing this version of Knuckles! I actually used the precise same colors used for Knuckles in Sonic X.
His dreadlocks are my favorites. I tend to have a hard time with perfecting anatomy, but I think I nailed his arms pretty well.
I really like the original Knuckles' white gloves with the spikes, but I didn't like the way they were comming out in this version. So I resorted to simply giving him white spiked knuckles on regular hands. I still think they turned out great.
I added the leather cuffs and chain because I thought it added just the right snap to him.
And I wasn't sure how to include the green socks when he's wearing pants, so I closed up the ends of the pants and made them green. I'm guessing that the ends of the pants are green, but even I don't know for sure. What happened happened, and I think it looks great, whatever it is.

I wasn't sure where to categorize this drawing though, as I drew the image by hand using pencil, then put it on Photoshop and added outline, color and highlights there. I guess it's a mixture of both traditional and digital art.

Drawing time: 20 minutes
Photoshop time: 3 hours (I don't have the fancy tablets and I'm still getting used to Photoshop, so I'm learning as I go. Although there's gotta be a faster way to darken the outlines, and add the colors. Hints anyone?)

I'd love your feedback and comments on this! -out y'all!

KNUCKLES, YOU ROCK!

EDIT: I also have a human version of Sonic the Hedgehog. Check it out! [link]

Ah, Knuckles. One of my old favourites. :3 I always play him in all the games.
Again, well done. :3 Love the cartoony style, and how you've interpreted him as a human. (It's better than some idea I've seen...making him over-sweet and stuff like that. XD)
The anatomy is actually quite nicely done. Has a very satisfying knack to it. :3

With Photoshop (I don't actually use the program, but I know how it works) did you use several layers? Because it is indefinately easier if you use layers for colouring, rather than just one layer. The topmost layer should be your lines (with the settings set to 'Multiply', which just basically means that that layer will have its darker values multiply whatever is underneath), the second colours, and the third a white background (without it, your line layer won't work...at least...as far as I know.)
With outlines, when converting directly from pencil sketch to outlines, you have to make sure that your line art is incredibly neat and you don't have too many smudges all over the place (light ones are ok). Then you need to fiddle with the contrast and gamma levels until the black stands out on white (without being pixelly). I believe that can be found in 'page>transform' or 'colour' or something like that, I forget which sub-menu.

(Sorry if I'm re-iterating what you already know. XD)

Thanks for the comment on Knuckles! I really love how he came out.

And thanks for the tips on Photoshop. I colored him on a single layer and did not even think of using layers. I will definitely try exploring the layering/coloring concept. That's a real help!

You are welcome. ^^

Layers are a little to get used to at first, but you'll learn pretty quickly, I'm sure. They become very useful. :3

I love the way you drew him. :3 He looks a little more like himself than other human versions I've seen, in my opinion. Also love the shading. ^^

Wonderful job!

Thanks so much!!! I agree, usually the human versions of Knuckles don't look very much like him.

I did my best to capture the original character of Knuckles in this humanized version: Keep him young looking (he's 16, as officially stated on Wikipedia), keep the dreadlocks looking the same, and keep that angled mouth in a kind of frown. I'm glad you like this version!

You're welcome! It's awesome! I'm not sure it would work so well for another character (I can't imagine it, I guess. XD) but for knux, love it. :3
