Background:

The Salem III system being the capitol of New Europe Special Administrative Zone was not new to political unrest with many protests occurring within its streets since it was settled in the 0200s. The largest of these were in the aftermath of the Terran Unification War where millions flooded the streets only to be gunned down by UTA occupation forces.

Although over a century has passed since the massacres, continued poor treatment by the UTA has ensured that anti Accord sentiments remained strong within New Europe, with regular waves of unrest occurring every few years. The most recent of these waves started in September 20th 0466 when the incredibly popular pro-reform governor of NESAZ was removed by the UTA.

Although the initial protests were surprisingly peaceful, as police and government aligned militias cracked down on the demonstrators, riots ensued. Many had expected this to be just another wave of unrest, they were proven wrong as government enforcers were quickly overwhelmed, with many surrendering after several high profile assassinations or even defecting to the demonstrator's side due to disillusionment.

At this point Govenor Daniel Grandis who was incharge of the NESAZ declared martial law and ordered the local defense forces to put a end to the unrest, however they refused with many even siding with the demonstrators.

The Accord high command panicked, declared the event an insurrection, and quickly mobilized their forces to crush the rebellion. For a week local defense forces and citizen militias clashed with the federal army across Salem III's various worlds and and habitats, with the UTA eventually coming up on top.

Although the uprising has been quelled with UTA high command using it as an excuse to further crackdown on reformists, unrest and anti government sentiments had continued to spread within the UTA, now with the allegiance of the armed forces in question some have decided to accelerate their plans for change.
