Two of these beautiful carved Sphinx guard the maosoleum to the Stanford tomb, housing Leland Stanford, his wife Jane, and their son Leland Jr. Sr Stanford created the famed Stanford University which is world-known for its excellence not only in education (especially the in the medical field) but for its Medical Center, football team (American football), catcus gardens, arboretum and a whole lot more.

The back of the enormous Grecian-style resting place is guarded by twin female Sphinx. Either weather, misfortune or malice knocked this one's nose off and upclose, you can see the patchwork done to restore the feature. It was done well, but it obviously isn't of the same calibur as the original. In fact, all four of these incredibly detailed works display an attention to detail that is just not seen in today's times. I will certainly be returning to this gorgeous place to take more pictures soon.
