Description ...Because we all need it sometimes.

***

I had another urge to create something tonight - I haven't been working with my usual style or technique in quite some time! A long time!

This took me all in all around 4 hours...

Now I've been unusually quick with this piece - as I'd normally return to it the next day, make refinements...work on it a bit more..and only then will I post anything up. As of that, I could say that this piece is still in the making (I sincerely apologise in advance to those who might get this re-submitted if I make updates!). As always, critique is -highly- appreciated!

Hey, thankyou!

Yes indeed, I have a few in my collection, from different time periods and nationalities. I buy them either online (ebay) or at army surplus stores.

well i think that the image is too dark is hard to see what 's hppening there, and there's too much textures . nice work!

beautiful pose, classic. something about this makes me feel like she's a prisioner or something, it's just the feel i get from this and i really like it. in fact, i like it so much it has inspired me and i think i'll draw something tonight using this feeling.

yummy Since you have advanced critique encouraged, I'm going to give one...I think the image is over-texturized, but aside from that I think you did an interesting job here

She sure looks like she's enjoying whatever it is she's getting from that mask, while myself.. I'm just enjoying the image it's been a while since I've been around on DA and it's good to see your work again, while it does look quite gloomy, you've somehow captured a calmness to it, a great job! keep up the good stuff

Alright, I can say something 'bout the colours. It really reminds me of works of the rennaisance age that has dulled out of old age. The texture you applied did a very good job to make that impression. I rarely would gripe about other people's choice of colours but since you asked me of my opinion on it I'd have to say it really suits the theme, I myself am biased towards earthly tones .

So, there's nothing wrong with the execution, colour sheme and composition. And yet this is the one work that stands out to me compared to the others in your gallery. The choice to give the artwork an aged look is very interesting, as if it had been overlooked and not given any care for a long time. It really relates to why we should have a soul therapy once in a while. I can only give minor gripes on that the face is too prominent (or vivid) and the face mask is kinda flat. And perhaps the hair can use less definition. I think it looks too elegant and too full to suit with the rest of the work.

In short, I don't think any critique can do a decent shredding on this one or any other works in your gallery. Great job on it

The-Corpse-Stock [2005-03-05 03:32:36 +0000 UTC]

Nice! Great grunge effect. I might have tried to desaturate it just slightly to see how it looks - maybe take a bit of the red out. But it certainly looks good as is...

xHex In reply to The-Corpse-Stock [2005-03-05 11:27:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh - you think just like I do - I almost always desaturate my work slightly, but completely missed on this one. I've had a try, and have toned down the red and desaturated only but a small amount. This piece seems to need that red tone and contrast with the green - but I have made the tones slightly softer and duller. Thanks for pointing it out, appreciated!

lockstock [2005-03-04 02:52:39 +0000 UTC]

That's fantastic! The textures and cracks are spot-on perfect. The tones and redness around the figure give it an old oil painting look. I can't think of any critique as far as what to do different or better. This just works as-is. I think the only thing I would want changed is the white border. Doesn't need it. Whoo! Helpful, huh?

Thanks for using my stock! Keep up the good work!

xHex In reply to vgreality [2005-03-04 00:37:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks D! (and for the fav!)

Uhmm....honestly? Can't say there is! I began with just the -need- to make something, really without any objective but then again most of the time that's what I do! I tend to improvise until my imagination starts working a bit more...

vgreality In reply to xHex [2005-03-04 01:25:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh ok, I was just asking 'coz, to me, the gas mask kinda implies that she's drugged in some sorta way... just asking incase it had some sorta relevance

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xHex In reply to vgreality [2005-03-04 12:42:48 +0000 UTC]

Ah! Yes well that's exactly it. The title implies that she receives 'soul therapy' through the mask; she's reaching a high on this sensual rehabilitation. She's healing and restoring her devastated soul. The cracks and imperfections you see on her body -is- her soul, hence the reference to the title.. - If only it was so easy in life...especially as I love gas masks

Hope that explains a bit better!

Thankyou -so- much, you have made. my. day!

Reason being, you used the two words, earthly and natural - quite ironic, today I had the hard task of trying to describe my work as I wish to portray it, in the description I used these two exact words. This is -exactly- my objective, or rather, my favourite style and tone to work in...I'm really glad you've pointed this out too!
