Description Just an image of life at Khamsin Stables, not for a competition or anything. Sam is training Ashes to stay calm with big scary falcons flying near her head. She's naturally a calm girl, so it hasn't been very difficult. Soon she'll be good enough to actually hunt with — hounds, falcons, and all.

Horse: Ashvini
Falcon: Sahar
The girl is Samantha Shen, one of the jockeys at Khamsin Stables.

You draw birds with stunning detail, this is so gorgeous. The whole concept of falconry and hunting in general in art RPG is so exciting, can't wait to see more!
I always planned to add some hunting sighthounds to my stud, like a seperate kennel for greyhounds, borzois, deerhounds, and maybe some pointers too.

Thank you — I plan on completing my general falconry training and getting a license at some point in the future, but for the moment the closest I can get. And I love Borzois, deerhounds, salukis, windhounds...they're so elegant and beautiful.

And yes, I for one would love to see some more hunting/raptor-friendly/dog-friendly events in the dA ARPG community. I don't really like the Kennel Club RPG (or whatever it's called, I've forgotten now). They have a lot of rules and such that I find unnecessary and irritating. :/

I've actually been thinking about hosting another event, with some (no-kill) hunting events included. It would be the sort of thing where people could use a Khamsin dog if they didn't have any dogs, and use their own if they did.

WOW, that sounds amazing! I've always dreamed of learning something like that, but I'm pretty sure falconry is illegal here in Australia. I plan to take up longbow archery in the near future.
That's a great idea for a show. I hope I have some dogs in time, if you host that event. If not I might just happily borrow a Khamsin dog ^^

Yeah, Australia is quite strict about falcons. I think it's something like you're only allowed to keep a falcon with a highly specialized license, and only to rehabilitate it. In the US it's less restricted, although still very stringent (which is good, because birds of prey are both dangerous and easily harmed, plus impact on wildlife populations need to be carefully monitered).

I'm actually going to hold a dog auction before the show, if you're interested, and I'll just keep any that don't get adopted. I don't see enough dogs around here, and I intend to do something about it. ;]

I expect birds of prey would make no distinction between a feral rabbit and a native endangered marsupial, so on that basis I can agree with the ban. However there are so many other illogical restrictions in Australia - for example there are heavy fines for walking a dog (on a leash) in a bush reserve. Meanwhile feral species are doing far more damage, and all the creeks in these reserves are polluted from residential sewage anyway.
I'll keep an eager eye out for that. Are you going to auction a variety of sighthounds, or just Saluki-types?

That sounds irritating. It's difficult to guage how much and what kinds of regulation are needed to keep wildlife safe, and then you have the issue that many care more about lining their pockets than preserving native species and habitats...

As for the auction, I will probably have borzois, salukis, Irish wolfhounds and azawakhs, as well as a couple of my breed, the akhilar. I miiight squeeze in a couple Scottish deerhounds and/or silken windhounds, depending on how ambitious I get and how interested people seem. What types would you be most interested in seeing?

I love all of those breeds, so it would really depend on the colour. The azawakh is probably my favourite out of the dogs that you have mentioned, closely followed by the deerhound.

Agreed, I love azawakhs (so trim and elegant!) and deerhounds (so noble and yet adorable). But my personal favourite might have to be the borzoi...

Anyway, I'm going to start drawing up some dogs for auction, we'll see how it goes and how soon I'll actually have them posted.

Do it! I've seen very few people in HARPG with raptors or other birds, and it's quite fun to draw and research. And thank you. :]

Aw, thanks. The one in the upper right panel is the only one that's particularly accurate (in terms of number of primaries, tail feathers, etc), but they're all fairly close to the way actual Saker falcons look.
