My entry for 's winter contest.---
It's sort of hard to get into a winter mind set when it's the middle of summer. =3=
Ayup, quite a while's work went into this. Half done with my old tablet, half done with my new one. I put much effort into the background, and whilst it's good for my standards, in still needs work.
Also, I went for a warm winter's day look. The sun is out and shining, but it's still very cold and there is snow.
And hey look! I drew snow! And the footprints too! They took work but I'm very happy with how they came out :]

Wow, I really like their facial expressions. It helps give this piece some context and it also sparks imagination. I can totally imagine the story behind this.
If I had to guess, I would say that they are siblings living in a huge luxurious mansion. But the oldest sister got bored and convinced her younger siblings to go exploring local spooky forest with her, despite what her parents told her about it. You can see it in her eyes that she is up to no good. 
Hehe...
So your work is really, really good, but like you said, you should work more on the background. The trees and the empty area between them could benefit from more details, but the kind that wont compete for attention with characters too much. Snow and footprints are pretty good, but shadows the characters are casting could still be touched up a bit. The characters themselves are in my opinion perfect!!! I love them so much and i think that there is nothing about them to be improved!
So lolfish, I'll be rooting for you on this contest. ^^ I also plan to enter this one, but I don't think I can top your amazing work. But still I'll do my best since I have a nice idea.

Heh, thank you~! I've got to say this has been the greatest comment I've ever received.
The three in the picture are meant to be siblings so I'm glad that's easily noticeable. As for a story behind the picture, I never really came up with one ^_^" I like to think that the youngest girl is. like you said, new to everything and just wants to look around, the boy is in a rush to go wherever he's heading, and the oldest girl is keeping them all under control.
I know why the shadows are shoddy and that's because I cheated a little I tried many times and drawing them right but it wouldn't work nice TT_TT But I shall overcome this by practicing more : D
