Description
Haven't been around for a while, not particularly for lack of woodwork; I've been in and out of the shop a fair amount since October, but I haven't had my camera in a little while, so I haven't been updating. Phone pictures aren't all they're cracked up to be, so I avoid them. But hey, I want to at least keep this page from dying entirely, so here's a piece I made back in the day. It's a continuation of Live at the Green Mill with designs drawn up for a couple more pieces-one organ based, and another trumpet based. I'm telling you, these impressionist pieces are a lot of fun; I got to work in a little cello-cerebellum, and float the arms way out there, it was fun; woulda been a little better in a harder wood, but I'm strapped for cash going into grad school, so oak it is.
This piece is based on a lovely cello that I have had the privilege to see in action at close quarters a couple of times, made in the 1700's and owned at one point by Mozart's grandfather, (you can actually just seeΒ the black cello case it's in in the corner of the pictures)Β and sculpted to the piece 'Gabriel's Oboe'.
At some point I'll get a hold of a camera and upload some more pieces, a couple of padauk foo dogs, some tea trays, oh, and a coffee table made of old organ pipes, that one was fun.
This piece is made of oak with a pine base, and a metal support.

I love this piece! The "head"stock is particularly eye catching! While portrayed in wood this looks phenomenal, I can't help but wonder what it'd look like as a sort of minimalist painting. xD. Fantastic work as always! Glad to see you haven't lost your touch C:

I'm a cellist, and I absolutely love this piece. A friend bought me the soundtrack to The Mission as a birthday gift, and I discovered Yo-yo Ma's rendition of "Gabriel's Oboe" not long after. It's now one of my favorite
movie compositions. Now I have to ask - are you selling this piece, or perhaps taking commission work?

You know what, let me get back to you on this. I've been trying to get into the shop a little more lately. This piece was given as a gift already, but it wasn't complicated; I could probably handle a second go at it.
Drop me a note and let me know what personalization you'd like to see in it; I'll see what I can do.
