Description
"Do you seek power, child?"

"N-no,"

"Let us see if your heart matches your lips."

The massive creature fell forward onto two tripod-like legs, revealing the eye upon it's chest. Macaicu could not look away from its piercing gaze. Fire began to blaze in the pupil, and soon the landscape became what Macaicu saw.

"Ha, it seems... that you are a terribly lucky child"

"Wha-"

"You are the one we are looking for. I cannot pass my judgment at this time."

Its head descended towards Macaicu, and the third eye started to open. It was then he realized those were not eyes on its head, but mouths; one of which swallowed him up.

So Dheighamhot wandered to the front of my mind today and wouldn't leave with a simple pencil drawing, or two... or three... so I did this. Sad thing is, is that it took about as long to write that little bit of story as it did to paint it... yeah... and I don't paint fast...

Anyway, I should explain why Dheighamhot, or Deigom, as the Ferox call him, looks like this instead of that little inanimate bat-like thing. [link] What you see here is the mental projection of Deigom, which is seen when someone touches Deigom's body, which is that little bat thing (I do have a more official name for it, but it would be a bit of a spoiler.) Physically, he is a living creature with conscious thought, but he's immobile. The hard inorganic shell effectively protects the soft tissue on the inside.

The mental projection is not necessarily restricted, but it usually resembles the physical form. The size of the projection is relative to the amount of energy he has at the moment (or in other words, how well fed he is.)

Some other random notes:

He is associated with fire, personality wise, appearance, among other things...

Only one mouth can open at a time, and each mouth results in a different consequence. The left and right mouths are used at the conclusion of his judgment, but the middle one is special. C:

Deigom/Dheighamhot and Macaicu belong to me.

Wow. Rather creepy. Sigh. How could you give only a tidbit of story and leave me wanting more? XD I'm not serious, of course. But seriously...this is speed painting?

Xovq In reply to lennan [2009-01-07 20:04:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.

Well, it is considered a speed painting, because it was done in a few hours, I did not start with any outlines, and it has a loose appearance. I'm pleased with how it turned out though, and I don't know if I could replicate it very well.

Wow, that's beautiful for a speedpainting. The description was just as enjoyable. I'm assuming this is from a story you're currently writing? It sounds like a great read.

Thanks.

I would like to make a web comic some time in the future. I've been working on a script for it so that it will be easier for me to make the actual pages.

One thing I wish I'd done was write a story that wasn't so dependent on color. If you could go Black and White you'd make it a lot easier on yourself.

Yeah, that's what I figured and I think that is what I'll end up doing.

Aww don't feel that way.

I've just been following web comics for some time now and observing what works and what doesn't. I also did some practice pages a few years ago to try it out.

A web comic is a big commitment, and I don't want to leave my readers hanging, so I've been planning and figuring out what will work best for me.

Seriously, good for you. I never did something like that when preparing 1Q; I was just excited to get it started. I'm excited to see what work you've got. Feel like dropping any clues as to what story you'll be writing?

Xovq In reply to MegSyv [2009-01-15 00:50:13 +0000 UTC]

Well initially it was going to be in written format, and it was planned out into separate books. In a way it is sort of a series, and sort of not. There is a main plot that goes through all of the books, but they are capable of standing alone, some more so than others. I don't want to reveal much about the overall plot, cause it will spoil the first book. The series does center mostly around Macaicu, with the exception of the second last book.

The first book will be called Drifter's Seal, which is the book that this image takes place in. I have have titles for the others, but they could change. Those titles in consecutive order are Shadow's Words, Watcher's Amends, Keeper's Key, and Brother's Judgment. The books are not that long, at least for fantasy stories, they aren't long.

I actually don't have a name for the whole series yet...

Titling stuff is the most exciting part of the whole process. Hang onto that.
I want to read your stuff now. Whenever you finish it, is there a chance you'll email it to me...?

extremely spectacular, i really got that feeling of overwhelming power from this, you did an awesome job of expressing the scene : D

also, when i read that the eyes were mouths, i totally freaked xD

all in all, very cool, i'd love to read this story c:

Thank you.

Yeah I had to set up that part with the mouths just right. I knew that without the description it would be missed, but I didn't want to just say they were mouths. I wanted it to be a creepy surprise, so I'm glad you freaked. XD

You may be able to read this story sometime in the future (probably in web comic format), but it will be a while. I'm still working on the script, which will probably take me years to finish.
