Yay, my first real CG of Satori, ~Matsamudo 's original character. I created his look and have drawn him multiple times before this, but this is my favorite so far
. I can't help but say he looks hot 
;; -cough- Anyway, I had set a sky background , but I got rather frustrated with it, and realized I didn't want a sky background again, so I tried something else. I like the effect it had on this picture. Hope you all enjoy, especially you Chris , you know this one is for you

how did you do the background for satori?
that picture with the snow?

hmm well, when I was done coloring the actual satori, I merged all the layers together (from the lines, his skin tones, hair, shirt, etc). Then, behind it , I made a dark grey squared area, and I used some(light grey) soft big brushes at low opacities, then I changed the color to yellow for the glowy areas (which I quickly changed my mind about yellow, and replaced it with a greenish tone) After that was done, I went back to the Satori layer, took the selection tool and copied from his head to about his shoulder area, and pasted it onto another layer, transformed it to make it a bit larger and moved it to the upper left hand corner and set it down, then I set my colors to a grey and greenish (i think, meaning the foreground color and the background color), then I went to the filter gallery , and use the halftone pattern (and you can pick from dotted patterns , circular , or lined) I took the dotted one, applied it, and I think that's it

oh, and another question- why did you draw him with his coat? is there a personal reason? or did you just do it for fun?

ah I see. The only deviation i've used the pen tool completely is the Kali I submitted not too long ago (girl sitting on the stool) Most of the time (like this one for example) is just inked by hand, scanned , then colored in photoshop. But if you learn to use the pen tool properly , you'll do great, I know it
