Description lets see... ~sakana and me were debating much earlier if we should just stick to photoshopping or doing out an actual eye. I was kinda thinking BRS w/o an eye AT EVENT is kinda disappointing... though i have totally no idea how to kick off too.

at 1st i conceptualise it as more like a ball of fire, with a more sphere-like item in mind... and walked around my neighbourhood stores for inspiration till i get a semisphere hair accessory as the base. With reference to illustrations, i roughly cut various layers of flames to stick into the sphere. Material wise i hope for a transclucent look so i got blue clear folders and did layering. Then the problem... SIZE. The shape is pretty cool we think, but the size is too big. And that type only has that size or bigger. We tried to cut it but it was too hard and we ended up breaking a few items anyway.

So i looked again and tested with 2 other types of other shapes and sizes... i even tried using gashapon cover or duplicate a semisphere of smaller size by eproxy. ..all failed T.T It's a heart attack when we ALL agree the flames on the 1st prototype looks best Q.Q

then i stopped and get busy for Cendrillon shoot. After which i destroyed all the previous prototypes, emptied my brain and look into the figurine images instead. I played around with hard paper to make another prototype then apply it to the plastic sheets. It seem to work, but too transparent. So ~sakana bought me another slightly opaque plastic sheet and i try again... ok it didn't too bad.

Then comes the horror of HOW TO PUT ON?! Tape, fishline, elastic band... ok fishline + velcro seems to work in the morning. But it failed when we put on after all the makeup and wig. Then comes hairpins... somehow it managed to stay.

and unexpectedly the material captures light sometimes which made it look like a glow. It came as a surprise really

ok i'm tired. i need to sleep.

Two Words: Spirit Gum. it's basically glue to stick stuff to your skin. make-up artists use it to put scars and stuff on people for movies.

you an basically find it at any halloween store, and possibly craft stores too

The halloween supplies are limited in my country as asians generally not so much into it. And this is not a scar type... but i'll check it out. Thanks!

it should work for that too, if you can find it. it's not just for scars. that was just as an example.

It's cool to see how the process went to different flame styles. :3 And the final one looks so professional <3

How's visibility when wearing one? Can you see through it fairly clearly or is it like being blind in one eye? xD

Just wondering, would you be willing to take commissions for these? xD I'm considering BRS for my next cosplay, but I'm worried that if I make the flame myself something will go wrong, since it seems like every time I try to make stuff for my cosplays something goes horribly wrong. |D;

xrysx In reply to Armored-Heart [2011-06-07 03:09:30 +0000 UTC]

these are cheap materials so don't be afraid to trial and error~
it's transparent with a blue tint so still visible~
sorry i don't do commissions as I tend to be lazy.
Good luck!

xrysx In reply to tntjperic [2011-06-07 03:08:32 +0000 UTC]

it's thin light plastic so it easily takes on folds~

hi, what kind of glue did you use to connect the cut layers of plastic

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xrysx In reply to DeadXNurse [2010-06-21 16:10:30 +0000 UTC]

hi, i just saw your PM~
it's just normal plastic files from stationary sold in stores.
for the final version here, it's better u cut as 1 whole piece and bend along the curve lines so u don't need to do any gluing and it will last better and not fall into pieces

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DeadXNurse In reply to xrysx [2010-06-22 03:44:20 +0000 UTC]

wow tnx how did u manage to secure it around your eye

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xrysx In reply to DeadXNurse [2010-06-22 03:56:41 +0000 UTC]

fish-line or thin black threads to sew through at the edges, just like how people do for eyepatch. i didn't want to stretch the flame so i sewed the threads then pin the ends to my hair.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DeadXNurse In reply to xrysx [2010-06-22 13:10:14 +0000 UTC]

ah, so for the flame, u just glued the other folded parts altogether

I am going to be attempting to make the flame. ;o; So I was just wondering how did you manage to get the flame stay on your eye without it falling off? xD I see you said you used hairpins so did you hot glue the pin to the back of the flame or? Dxx SORRY FOR THE QUESTION. x.x; Basically my question is how do you make the flame stay in place with the hairpin? LOL -is so confusing with questions-

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xrysx In reply to ketsivaun [2009-12-23 10:45:45 +0000 UTC]

i kinda sewed fishing line to the flame, then pin via a loop(fishing line) to the hair...
