I don't really have any good tips on how to shade (I pretty much shade the way you do, hehe so I don't have much to add.) Maybe to add more depth you could do more shadows/highlights? another thing I sometimes do, is if you're using photoshop or something with layers, you could just use different shades of grey on a layer over your original drawing for the shading, then set the transparency and layer style (like color burn, or overlay or something) and that also works well for shading!
