EDIT: Added fire to the wings

~ N O T E ~
So once again, I'm working on this whole photo-manipulation project on the 5 Elements of Nature This one was a challenge for me because I don't do well with fire; I hate it, and I don't know what its supposed to look like

~ T H I S . P I E C E~
The Fire horse resides by the withering shrubs and the cracking earth of the wastelands. Although it does have wings, they provide no flight to the horse because they are made of fire. However, the fire cannot be extinguished, and it burns incessantly as long as the horse keeps living. A trail of fire always follows in wake of the horse as it gallops across the burning earth.

Fire is the best element, as my zodiac Joking aside, I like the choice of the wings: it's not binding to the easy mental association of fire with the evil. Cheers

This looks so cool, expecially since you said you don't work well with fire! A couple of things though,
The cracks in the ground you might want to make them blend a little better and maybe even add a little bit of glow. Also if you put the Fill level down a little bit (or if you don't have fill opacity) it will make it look more realistic.
The wings are amazing and I think the only thing I can say about those would be to maybe add a tiny bit more orange to the ends of the feathers.
The smoke is amazing and the mane looks great.
The tail has some white where you smudged it. Maybe try to add color instead of already using what is there. Try these brushes: [link] they make it seem Very realistic after you played with them for a bit. It's a whole new way but it does make it better int he long run.
Other then that, the lighting and the entire piece is just beautiful!

This looks great!I love the smoking wings and the firey cracks. However, the head is much clearer than the rest of the body.Understandably the heat from the fire will make the legs blurry, but the hindquarters are smudged while the barrel is not.Adding finer details to the wings would help by not making the head the only part of the horse thats really defined.
Other than that everything looks great. (:
I can't wait to see the others, especially metal

xSoCassiex In reply to cas887 [2010-01-01 02:32:39 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for pointing that out! I realized that the hindquarters looked really off it was all smooth compared to everywhere else
To add finer details to the wings, do you think I should add like... feathery details? Or fire-y details? I guess both would look okay.... what do you think?
I have something very special in store for the metal it's going to be hard though, but I hope I follow through with it
I'll go fix the piece right now Thanks for the critique!!

lol ^-^
Uhmmmmmmm...I think both is a safe way to go.I suck at both xD So I'm not much help there. No,scratch that.Firey details would be better, because cute little feathers would detract from the theme lol.Maybe just chose some shades from the fire under the horse and draw lines and shadows and such.Meh...I'm not much help p:

well..one more question.how did you do the highlights on the horse's face without a tablet?it looks better than a dodge job.. p:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xSoCassiex In reply to cas887 [2010-01-01 04:03:39 +0000 UTC]

I used a paintbrush tool, along with the dodge and burn tool and the smudge tool A lot of it was already there-- I just used these tools to highlight the correct lighting spots
