Description Abu Musa

Wiki[link]

Abu Musa is part of the six-island archipelago in the eastern Persian Gulf near the entrance
to the Strait of Hormuz.

It is administered by Iran as part of the province of Hormozgan, but claimed by the United Arab Emirates (Sharjah).

British transferred the administration of the island to the Emirate of Sharjah in the late 1960s.
In 1968, when Britain announced its withdrawal from the Trucial Coast, Iran made a move and occupied Abu Musa and the Thumbs.

The dispute over ownership of the island continues and Iran expelled foreign workers who operated UAE-sponsored projects.
