Their name either means Black Vlachs or Sea Vlachs. They were shepherds who lived in Dalmatia, but in the 15th century moved to Istria.
They are, erroneously, confused with Istro-Romanians, who are a distinctive different Romanized group from the Morlachs. Their language is on the verge
of extinction. They are, perhaps the smallest ethnic minority in Europe. Croatian census found out only 22 people who declared themselves as Morlachs..
They profess mostly Eastern Orthodoxy with the minority of Roman Catholics.

The Maurovlachs are very little known.
The destiny of the Aromanians in general (the Romanians that are south of Danube, the Balkans) is very tragic.
Condemned to assimilation in Greece, Bulgaria, Albania, Croatia, Serbia, etc.
The only attempt of having state was during WW2, with the Principality of Pind. Unfortunatly it failed

It´s sad that althow a EU member Greece and Bulgaria don´t recognise national minorities.
For example the muslim comunities, like Turks for example, they say that they are Bulgarians that lost their religion, or Greeks that have converted to Islam.
Also in the case of Vlachs, in Greece they say the are Greeks that speak a latin language. It´s so much bullshit ...

True you are right, the european dream is nothing but lies and covering up the mess they made... not better then any other nation or union.
The one thing i do not understand is how people suffered from oppression for instance the greeks under the Ottoman rule suffered like any other minority but when it comes to themselves they do it too.. i dont get it, there is no improvement in humankind, now the greeks are merely an example alot perhaps every nation is like this..

You can see how perverted is the human race, just by looking at the Balkan Wars for example (to keep the discusion in the same area).
All those nations were under Ottoman rule for almost five centuries, all Christians and instead of having a more brotherly relationship, they started to take eachother lands, slaughter, assimilate, etc.
Even worse than the Ottomans, cose in 5 centuries, all those distinct identities were kept, but in 30 years of occupation by one these nations, most of the people of different nationalities, becamed Bulgarized, Greeks, Serbs, Albanian, etc.
I can´t understand why human beings are so freakin´evil sometimes ...
