Ava Guarani are indigenous to southern Bolivia, western Paraguay and northwestern Argentina.
In Argentina, they live in Jujuy and Salta provinces, and are generally known as "chaguancos",
although they prefer the name "Ava Guarani").
The Survey of the Indigenous Peoples 2005 recognized 21.807 Ava Guaranis in all of Argentina including 17.592 in Jujuy and Salta.
