It is a state in eastern India carved out of the southern part of Bihar in 2000.
It shares borders with Bihar to the north, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the west, Orissa to the south, and West Bengal
to the east.
The industrial city of Ranchi is its capital.
Jharkhand is also popularly known as Vanachal (wooded area).
The name Jharkhand means the land of forests or jungles.
It took 50 years struggle to accomplish the establishment of the Jharkhand state.
