Metis are one of the Aboriginal peoples in Canada who trace their descent to mixed First Nations parentage.
The term was historically a catch-all describing the offsprings of any such union, but with generations the culture
syncretised into what is today a distinct aboriginal group, with formal recognition equal to that of the Inuit and
First Nations.

The Metis homeland includes regions scatterred across Canada, as well as parts of the northern U.S. (Montana, North Dakota and northwest Minnesota).
Canadian Metis population stands at 390.000 (1.25% of the total).
