The region of Murcia is an autonomous community located in the southeast of the country, between Andalucia and Valencian Community,
on the Mediterranean coast.

Unlike other communities, Murcia is a single province.
Area: 11.313 sq km

Murcia was under Muslim rule until 1266 when it was annexed to Castile, giving the latest an access to the Mediterranean.
The language spoken there is a Murcian dialect of Spanish with its own accent and words.

It is called "panache". There are there several regionalist, autonomist and independist movements. They claim Murcian Nation as a people
defined by a history, language and culture common in the area of Greater Murcia.

Some of these movements strive for the increased regional autonomy while others want to make Spain a federal country, and some are advocating outright independence.
However, except for the drive for greater and real autonomy, these movements garner very modest support of Murcia's population.
