Description Warmia / Ermland

Wiki[link]

Warmia is a region between Pomerelia and Masuria in northeastern Poland.
The area is associated with the old Baltic Prusian tribe, the Warmians, who settled in its northern part.
According to folk etymology, Warmia is named after the legendary Prusian Chief Warmo, whereas the name Ermland derives
from his widow Erma.

Warmia has been under the dominion of various states and peoples over the course of its history, most notably the Old Prusians, the Teutonic Knights,
the Kingdom of Poland, and the Kingdom of Prussia.

The history of the region is closely connected to that of the Archbishopric of Warmia (formerly, Duchy of Warmia)

After WWII Warmia was restored to Poland, and together with Masuria forms now the Voivodship (Province) of Poland.
Warmians speak a peculiar dialect of Polish with many German words included in it.
There is a substantial German minority there, organized in the Deutsche Minderheit Ermland und Masuren.
