Two characters from one of my many original in-the-works stories. Meet Officer Chick and Pirate Guy, the unnamed main characters who are not romantically involved in any way and HATE each other. In fact, they try to maim each other at every opportunity (Officer Chick succeeds twice, cutting off Pirate guy's finger, and then the whole hand later on in the story, replacing them with mechanical limbs later. She likes teaching him lessons and bringing a completely literal meaning to the term 'Move it or lose it').
See her arms? No you don't. They're mechanical, artificial limbs. This is a story set in the future, after all fossil fuels are used up and the world changes completely. Bye-bye cars, trains, and airplanes. Hello wooden ships, balloons, bicycles, and legs.
See her eye? No you don't. Once again, mechanical. she was born horribly disfigured - one of her eyes literally burst shortly after her birth, and she was born without arms.

How they're described, from the opposite character's point of view, in the story:
Officer Chick: "A gaunt little thing, with skin darker than her hair, that didn’t look like she could take down anyone." -Pirate Guy

Pirate Guy: “He was a nasty-looking man with dark eyes and dark hair. He looked quite like an overdone pancake, and his hands felt as rough and callous as he appeared.” –Officer Chick
