Description

Cephalupe (セフルーペ, Sefurūpe) stands tall with its nine menacing tails, forming a writhing lower body that allows the monstrosity to stretch around to finds its prey. It’s ferocious stare and animalistic tendencies juxtapose not only its desire for power, but a theatrical desire for attention. It considers itself akin to a phantom, manipulating people and the environment to gain a powerful advantage over its prey, and then strike at the most opportune time. Cephalupe possesses particular fondness for devouring powerful spirits, like the ancient Nature Spirits. It considered their ethereal beauty attractive and desirable in order to improve its own look. While the beast never became a full on Vastro Lorde, the mental manipulating abilities of its songs made it a tricky and difficult enemy for both Shinigami and Quincy enemies. One of its favorite methods of killing its enemies would be thrusting its red claws into the skin, enjoying the gush of entrails and blood spraying into a canvas upon death. “A beauteous masterpiece”, Cephalupe would cry out after a glorious kill.

This soul’s life did not start out as a beauty-obsessed beast. This Hollow started out as a singular soul in Spain during the middle ages. He started out as a rather stylish bullfighter, attempting to gain the heart of a beautiful Spanish woman, Paloma. With his team of lancers and flagmen, they had fought many bulls together with grace and style. He was also a wonderful charmer. And despite setting his eyes on a singular target, he was able to tug at many a woman’s heartstrings with his Spanish guitar playing; and his dulcet tones of flamenco a high paced and energetic music style indigenous to the country. Eventually, he was to kill his 100th bull in front of the Spanish village, and with that, commemorate that fateful day with his and his love’s marriage right afterwards. The match soon began, the entire spectacle happening alongside two other bullfighting teams in a fiesta. He had always started his bullfights by saying “Frente al amor y la muerte no sirve de nada ser fuerte.” (Spanish for "Face love head on and death has no strength") This always made his lover Paloma swoon, filling her heart with euphoria. Unfortunately, fate had other plans in store for the duo, as this was truly his final match with the bull, his love for the flair and showmanship dulled his senses to a fateful push by the bull, goring him right through his stomach in front of the entire village. His fateful bride-to-be wept for hours on end, and stayed silent for the coming weeks. The bullfighter’s soul was restless, and wanted any possible way to capture his beloved’s heart…

Eventually, there were whispers of guitar music permeating through the village at night, and maidens dying after the same song ends. Soldiers and policemen in the village weren’t able to figure out the cause of these incidents and the problem became big enough that the mayor of the town had to bar all maidens and social gatherings. Paloma, still distressed, eventually started to hear the beautiful flamenco music through her house. The music captured her heart, and her mind was clouded by each and every note. She rushed over, and each step as she attempts to find the source made the song race with its pace. Eventually, the song seems to lead on over to her balcony. The moon shined brightly that day, and it was full too. Whether it was the song or her broken heart, she seemed transfixed by the beauty of the moon. It was only fitting that it was the last thing she sees before suddenly being punctured through the stomach by a large monstrous claw.

With the devouring of his former lover’s spirit, the animalistic Hollow was free to capture more hearts, as it felt compelled to give in to its immense hunger. Cephalupe was obsessed with grabbing the hearts of maidens before killing them, and eventually adopted various other manipulative ways to gather more maidens. One of its favorite manners is using its strong musical power to create hallucinations to lovesick women, propelling them to their deaths. Among its favorite consumptions was a particular nature spirit, a kitsune (狐, fox); intelligent beings that can be both benevolent and trickster, there have been many a story that detail their power over human souls. Though the kitsune was strong, her strength proved far useless to her mind by the mental manipulative powers of its songs. It was the devouring of this soul that helped hasten Cephalupe evolution, and soon enough became the basis of its transformation into an Adjuchas-class Hollow. It would be this transformation that gives it a more aesthetically pleasing form, a female gender to the corrupted soul as well as fox traits to the more powerful hollow.

Her lust and hunger for gathering beautiful and artistic figures made the Italian Renaissance a magnificent smorgasbord, eating artists and models left and right. Unbeknownst to the Hollow, it would be in the latter part of this era where it would meet a certain young Sicilian girl, and their fates entwined in a waltz of destiny…

Trivia:

Cephalupe has a high opinion of herself, and believes herself to be the most beautiful Hollow in existence. Would often deride other hollows for how ugly they are compared to her.

Originally, Cephalupe was meant to be a body snatching Hollow and her quest to be a Vastro Lorde was meant to follow the Kitsune mythology of gathering all 9 tails through taking in 9 special
maidens.

Cephalupe's influence has given it's host, Brass Jazzsinger, an interest in flamenco music.
