Character: Hiko Kusanagi

One of the most controversial figures in the history of Soul Society, Hiko Kusanagi is a man of many faces. Having witnessed his mother's death at the hands of his traitorous uncle, the then 8 year old boy pledged to achieve absolute strength in order to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again. Hiko trained toward this singular purpose, putting his skill to use against the Gozen Shogunate regime which dominated Soul Society at the time. Hiko was a key figure during the Bakumatsu Revolution, defeating Emperor Tenrou Gozen in combat. However, Hikos desire to fight continued to burn and he himself continued to wage war against the world nearly conquering all of Soul Society.

In the aftermath of the Bakumatsu Revolution, many lands were without any form of government, leadership or even an army to protect them. This left these cities and towns victim to gangs and criminals that formed in the absence of the Shogun's vast military presence. Hiko initiated battle once again, wiping out the criminal warlords and seizing region after region for himself. While there are some regions and clans who welcomed him, many others wished to maintain their independence. Despite this Hiko pressed forward anyway, believing the world needed a man with absolute strength in order to maintain order and stability. He took control of areas like these by force, resulting in the death of countless people he had once championed. Numerous clans rose up to challenge him, settling the land ablaze with the flames of war once more. Corrupted by his own ego and greed he became the very thing he swore to fight against as a boy. Hikos actions caused the Clan Wars (一族の戦争, Ichizoku no Sensō), one of the bloodiest chapters in Soul Society's history.
