I despised twilight. I'm a hardcore vampire fan. Hellsing, van hellsing, dracula. My aunt got me to read twilight and it just upset me. Not only is bella WAY too perfect, but to me, edward is a wuss, and vampires just don't sparkles. And the science is terrible. Vamps can't have children physically. They're dead. so they're..male organs don't work like that of a living person, so they don't get....little swimmers. The only thing i found slightly entertaining was jacob and the others. at least she got most of the werewolf thing right.

I read the books when they all first came out. I liked them then. They weren't totally amazing or anything like that, but I did like them. Now, everyone and their grandmother is obsessing over it. It's rather obnoxious, I think. When everyone started fangirling over it, I started liking it less and less. It was better as a book and nothing else.

Muchly agreed. I didn't devote every waking moment to them back then, because I knew they could have been better and they were cliche- but I still read them. But, then they became this big thing and now I can not stand to hear about them.

I read those about two years ago as I am at heart a bookworm and love to read, after hearing about them repeatedly on people's profiles on fanfiction.net; and I have re-read them a few times since whenever I can't remember why the controversy is there.
And the fact is that the storyline is clichΓ© and repetetive, and from the movies, I prefer the background characters. Hey, Alice, Emmet and Charlie have more personality. That and the whole thing would have been far more romanticeally interesting had Bella fallen in love with Jacob.
Then again, I might just be against someone who appears to be emotionally constipated and lurks in your bedroom at night. *shrug*

See, I agree with you completely. I read them when they started coming out- so long before the movie was even optioned. And honestly, I enjoyed them a lot then, because they weren't such a holy grail to some people. I more or less detest them now, because the books aren't worth the hype, the rudeness, the arguments. It's just a series of books.

I didn't enjoy them so much as find them stragnly addicting. >> I think there's some cocaine in the pages. Or LSD.

*Sigh* I luv your mini rant! Just for the pure fact that you can't argue with it! I'm sick of hearing crap about Twilight and in that sense wish it was never popular. I myself don't care for it either way, so I guess I'm joinin your side!

Right on, say it sister! Or...brother, if you're a boy. Ahem. Yeah, It says a lot about our culture if a romance "Novel" is the big debate of our genaration.

I agree, i was into the books, before it became a whole teeny-bopper cult. they're good, don't get me wrong but some idiots actually tried to make a religion out of it. "Cullenisiom" was kinda funny as a joke, but to take it seriously? thats mental. Its a book people, calm the hell down.

I never liked Twilight, but I also never hated it. I read it, and it was an okay book, but I have read so many books in my lifetime and it was just another book. I didn't find anything super special about it, but I also could find much to hate either, I mean yeah I WAS a little jealous of Bella at first, but not because Edward was a super hottie [which I did not agree with anyways] it was more because my life was boring and hers was NOT, and I'm not jealous anymore.

I kinda feel alike. I mean, I first read Twilight maybe 4 or 5 years ago. I'm one of those rare persons in High School who actually knows where is located the library in the school and who often goes to see what's new. When I read the summary I thought it was going to be great and, I must say, I was right. It is a pretty good book no matter what people can say.
But, since the movie's out, I don't know what's going on in people mind. I mean, come on, fangirls call themselves "Twihard" or "Twilighters" only because they went to see the movie three times and read the book after that? Seriously I think that a real fan is somebody who already knew the saga. When the movie came out I had already read all of them and knew Twilight by heart.
There's not a day I don't see a girl having one of the four book... And sometimes there are those girls wearing their Edward's shirt... It's seriously driving me crazy.
You know, I guess I hate those fans as much as I used to love Twilight. Don't get me wrong, I still like it a lot. I'll probably get the 3 DVDs edition available here in Canada, but I certainly won't get it this week-end.
Just thinking as I write those lines that it's going to be crazy in shopping center this week-end... Oh Cr*p... Would we ever get out of this crazyness? Can somebody write us a brand new New York Times' #1 Best-seller please?!

I know exactly how you feel. I used to totally appreciate the books in a certain way, where I could read them and only have a few other people that knew what I was reading. Like I said, since the movie, it's been flippin' ridiculous. I can't stand most of the fans now. They seriously drive me insane with how offended they can get over simple things. I mean, I know people personally who have gotten literally jumped on and his face scratched by some crazy fan that overheard him say that Twilight wasn't that great. But it's not only that, it's the fact that they'll go to anything to defend the honor of Twilight. We aren't 'jealous', we do 'read them'-- but just because we find it to a different taste than the 'hardcore Twihards', does not mean we deserve to be attacked. This is why I'm neutral. Because I know the books could be better, I know there's a slight mary-sue going on-- but it's a guilty pleasure, and I only really enjoy the first of the series, Twilight. The others are alright, but they're just over top sometimes.
Anywho! Thanks for the input~!

Really great point!
I read Twilight not too long before it became super popular and blown out of proportion (I think, in some ways, at least), and I love the books, and quite liked the movie in most aspects. I really am getting tired of the whole debate over whether or not Twilight is a great book or not though.

Lolz I must agree as an original Twilight fan I've been forced to be neutral to avoid arguing.

This pretty much says it all. Especially with all the crazy fan stories coming out. Sometimes I'm almost ashamed to like Twilight.

Yes, it's quite irritating to hear about those fan stories and then people going: 'Ohmygod! You're a crazy Twilight fan!'
It's embarrassing, is what it is-- to me at least.

Seriously.
I don't even mention I like it in public. I don't want crazy stares. XD

Well, as we grow up, we understand things better...
Please fan, please grow up. Please ?
(This is neutral. I liked the book. I like it a lot less now. But if I try to respect those who enjoy it, it's rather difficult when they're squealing.)

I couldn't reply to your other comment, but wanted to pass this along. The fan stories I'm talking about are like the one in the new story. [link]

I'm right there with you. I used to love the Twilight Book (Just Twilight, not the other two-- and most certainly not Breaking Dawn.) I can see now the near horribleness of the books, the spelling just irks me beyond belief...But I still like it, sort of like a guilty pleasure. But when I get associated with 'those fans' (I have no doubt you understand what I'm talking about.) it pisses me right off. Besides, most of the fans now are 12 year old girls who have been given unrealistic expectations for their future boyfriends.
Ahwell, we like what we like? I just refuse to be associated with 'those fans' in anyway...*shivers*

I know what you mean. I found that it wasn't that big of a thing until the movie was planned to come out, then I was all: This is stupid. Twilight has got to be the most outrageous fandom there is!
When the Movie was planned to come out, I admittedly, was still rather into Twilight. But then the fangirls/guys, started getting out of hand and I was completely ashamed to be part of that. And Twilight lost it's interesting quality (more like guilty pleasure quality, but whatever). Now, I'm neutral. When it comes to debates, I can take a side usually, but sometimes I'll talk a Twilight Fan side or an AntiTwilight side.
Anywhooo~
