Description Duo is my new obsession now.

So... This is an illustration of a scene from Duo's past where he comes upon the ruins of the planetoid-sized space station that he once called home, and discovers that he's the last surviving member of his kind.
In order for this to make sense, I have to tell the whole backstory:
---
Thousands and thousands of years ago, there were two space-faring civilizations that tried to harness the powers of good and evil. One created justice energy, and the other created Evil Energy. Because of their conflicting ideals, they had a great war that eventually wiped out both races. Only the robots from the good race remained. They were called "Crusaders." Their new mission: Clean up the energies that were left behind by the ancient war.
As the millenniums passed, their memory of their creators faded, and they eventually ended up creating a culture of their own.
Times were peaceful for the Crusaders... But one day, one tried to take on a giant chunk of evil energy by himself. Instead of it just killing him, it corrupted him and he became the first of the "Infectors."
Instead of destroying Evil Energy, he began to harvest it, and absorb it into his body. This made him stronger and stronger until he dwarfed his former brothers in size. He tried to destroy the other crusaders, but their king fended him off and forced him to flee to a distant sector of the galaxy. But this battle wasn't without its casualties... The first Infector managed to corrupt several other Crusaders and took them with him to his hiding place.
Thus, a new war began.
The Crusaders started to spread out more and went to other planets to protect them from their enemy's corruption. Because they would offer their protection for free, they made many allies and saved hundreds of races. They were even allowed to work as an intergalactic police force.
However, over time, both sides began to dwindle as they kept killing each other. Their reproduction rates were very slow, so more were being killed than born each year.
Luckily, the Crusaders were winning. During this time, there were roughly 1,000 crusaders and only 3 Infectors left.
To overcome the impossible odds, the Infectors began to hatch a plan to completely wipe out their enemy... They only had one shot, and it would leave only one of their kind alive.
They harvested as much Evil Energy as they could, dodging the gaze of the mighty crusader patrols.
They condensed the Evil Energy into a massive asteroid that made their colossal leader seem small in comparison. After years of work, the meteor was ready for launch.
The Infector's king and one of his remaining subjects put everything they had into the meteor, and with the last of his strength, the king hurled it at the crusader's home. He had timed it just right so that it would hit the Crusader's base during a special holiday where every living Crusader would gather at the space station, no matter how far away they were.
The Infector King and his 2nd subject died shortly afterward, due to their energy levels becoming fatally low. Now everything was in Oud's hands... The last infector.
On the Crusader's side of things, it was just an ordinary holiday.
Each year, every crusader would gather to reunite with their brothers and join in festivities. But the most important part of the holiday was a ritual they would all perform. They would gather around the sacred pool and use their combined energies to create new Crusaders.
The entire population began to gradually arrive, but one was late...
A Crusader by the name of Duo had paused in his journey home to cleanse a planet of an evil energy infection. Little did he know, this delay would save his life...
Eventually, the Evil Asteroid crashed into the space station. It's intense aura would sap all life that was caught within it. It was so massive that not even the Crusader King himself could stop it. In a last cry for help, he used his psychic powers to signal boost the collective horror of his brethren to any sentient being nearby.
Duo picked up on this and knew that something was horribly, horribly wrong... He hurried to the space station as quickly as he could, but when he arrived, he was too late.

He didn't want to believe this was real...
He still searched for signs of life, even though he couldn't sense any.
He found more and more corpses until he finally stumbled across the body of his king.
He was all alone...The last of his kind. He was eternally separated from his brethren.
Duo wept more bitterly than he ever had before, but it was silenced by the void of space.
--
...Congrats on making it this far.
The rest of the story will be in an upcoming fanfic that's told from Duo's perspective.
(Also the backstory bit was written in one go, so it might be a bit sloppy.)

More pictures on the way!

Always neat to see some art of Duo's original design. Or Duo in general.

Certainly not a bad origin. I'm always curious to hear what people come up with since someday I hope to do a (crossover) comic with his origin. A few things it doesn't really address is why his name is Duo. And given that you're naming his counterpart Oud, it just seems like a huge coincidence the last ones remaining have some sort of name connection.

I just stuck with the name "Oud" because I didn't really know what else to name him. I also heard that there's a musical instrument called an "Oud" (It sounds like this ).
I didn't really get the chance to mention this in the story, but I imagined that the majority of the Infectors are evil mimics of crusaders who have lived at some point. Perhaps Duo and Oud have a longer history than they let on...?
As for Duo's name, I imagined that it just happens to mean "Two" in English. It probably means something different in his alien language.
