Description Tonya is one of my studio faeries. She is in charge of collecting and taking care of any eggs that have fallen from their nest. She is a hard worker and a very pleasant faery.

This original was created using watercolor on Arches 140lb Hot Press watercolor paper. The original is 5x7 inches.

You certainly pack a lot of detail into such a small canvas. I really like the colours you used, the glowing blues of the fairy with the browns and greens of the background.

James

This one is a real beauty. It reminds me of all the golden age faery artists that I love so much.

Sorry, bad spelling....not THAT James brown......the fairy artist James Browne. I looked at the other stuff in your gallery and realised that it was you. I just feel in awe that's all.......we're not worthy.
A book just arrived from Bud Plant for me that I ordered two months ago with some of your art in it......The Art of Faery.
OK now that I am over the initial shock, wanna be friends?

I don't know how you get so much detail into something so small... but I'm glad you do. The egg actually looks 3-D... it's kind of strange... as in, shockingly good strange.

I use very, very little brushes and when I can't paint it any smaller I have some of my studio elves do some detailing. Thanks!

She is so adorable. I love the blue flowers in the background. How did you get them o be so opaque? Did you do those with acrylic or guache?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

yaamas In reply to katstockton [2005-03-03 13:01:50 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Katie!!! I used a little gesso to create the flowers. I like to use white gesso rather than guache. It holds better when you glaze over it.
