Thanks Richard.
I'm glad that you like it, it was a nice morning and as you can see, a great view.
I've been asked to shoot a wedding for a family member and my first instinct was to say no because I don't shoot people .
(that sounds awful!) Anyway, I might do it just because it's going to be free and good practice. Still, I'm torn because I want the pictures to be good nonetheless.

Do it...the things you will learn can't be taught in a book. And just the fact that you want to do well will motivate you to do the best that you can. It has to start somewhere. I remember my first professional job was to shoot a Bat Mitzvah. I didn't have a clue what the hell that was nor could I even pronounce it back then. I don't know how it came about even. I'm trying to recollect and, well you know me I'm thinking it was someone who knew I was a camera nut on campus and suggested me to her parents for her sister I guess. Anyway, they finally explained to me that's it's a birthday party of sorts and so I agreed to do it. I shot it like a news story. What ever moved got photographed, what ever happened got photographed and what ever didn't happen got photographed too. I don't even know where the original negatives are. I think I may have given them to the "client" along with the set of double prints of the whole job. It was film days and I think I shot about 10 rolls of 36 exposures per roll Kodak 400 stock. I made a ton of mistakes in hindsight after having photographed hundreds of "parties" since then but the stuff I learned was priceless. Starting with overcoming my naturally great shyness and being forced to be outgoing and directorial. I think I did the job for like a 100 bucks and most of that went to material and processing. But that wasn't important. What was important was shaking the butterflies off and stepping out into the spotlight on stage. Shows on...rehearsal is over. Time to perform. You'll see...and oh btw you are far more of an advanced photographer than I was at that time. I was just learning the difference between and f/stop and a bus stop. Do it and don't worry during the shoot too much. Worry before and after when it doesn't matter. Go for it, girl. Invaluable stuff will be learned that will last you a lifetime.

Gosh, you are a such good storyteller Richard. I laughed my butt off with half of what you said.
Wow...all that film.  I can tell that you have been through a whole lot, and that was a good thing in the long term. I wish that I could have been a fly on some of those party walls.
You are totally right about the learning experience. It is technically a done deal because just last weekend I asked if that was still on, and my cousin said "heck yeah."
It'll be in October.

This wedding is going to be outdoors which I'm happy about. No church, not enclosed spaces.
All in a 3 acres- lake house, my cousin's place that I know inside out. Casual wedding, not a lot of people and actually, I'll know mostly everyone in there .
My shyness doesn't lasts too long anymore. I do like talking to people now. My downfall it can be. (Now I'm talking like Yoda wtf ...)
Yes, it is true that it has to start somewhere. This all started with my now "famous" family photobooths that I had created in the past for special ocassions like New Year's Eve and Mother's Day. It has been something that I do for fun and to get distracted. Now everyone knows about the possibilities...

Thank you Richard for the insight, I really do appreciate that you took the time to give me some well- needed assurance.

I look forward to seeing some of your work once it's all done. Remember..."the bride". It's her day and a happy bride makes for successful wedding photos. Stick close to her...and follow her request to the best of your ability no matter how unrealistic they may seem. Key events: The marching down the aisle or into the room with dad leading her, the vows, the ring exchange, the daughter/father first dance, son and mom first dance, the toasts, the bridesmaids and grooms, the cutting of the cake, the dancing, granny drunk in the back of the room. Find time to take the newlyweds somewhere to get photos of them with each other only, then with the wedding party, then with his family, then with her family, then all of them together and then (if you're still awake) them setting off into the sunrise for their honeymoon. Shoot it like a sporting event...lots of priceless action going on. Have fun and don't worry, be happy

Sure... with their permission, I'll post some pictures here.
Yes, follow the bride... definitely. Great tips! They are an older couple and they have been together for 15 years, so half of those things will happen but just a reminder to myself: It is still a Puerto Rican wedding after all.
We do things a little bit different than a traditional US wedding. So trust me, I'll be awake.
I won't worry...yet. I do have other things occupying my mind at the moment.
Thanks again Richard.

Oh this should be easy. They'll move a little bit slower because of their walking canes. You should be able to capture every second of the action
Hmm, do tell about a PR wedding.

Not that old! I meant "older" in the sense that they are quite layback about the wedding and well, both of their parents are gone, sadly.

A casual PR wedding. The main difference here is that there's no wedding coordinator so there is not a set schedule for anything really. Things happen when someone randomly decides that it is time to do something and then asks the bride and groom if it is ok . That person might be my cousin and owner of the place on this occasion.
Besides that, lots of drinking from the moment that you get there and if you don't have a drink someone will put one in your hand (you won't even notice who did it, they are like ninjas )
Lots of heavy fried food before the actual dinner, there's not such thing as a light appetizer. Loud...everything! Bachata, merengue, and salsa dancing to burn the calories from the drinking and eating of course. A fun time  and like I said, just a little bit different.
