Description UPDATE!
Coming along but slowly. So much bling...!   Takes forever to make!

Thus far this is what I've got.
It is completely a work-in-progress, which basically means that anything can change, ANYTHING. Also, if the colours look a bit pale, that's because they are just base colours for the time being. Plus, several things are on wrong layers so they don't even show much now... (like the beast's hands!!! you can't see them but they are there!!!)

I noticed, after these base colours were done, that Beauty looks a bit like Sleeping Beauty (princess Aurora), at least colour-wise, but that was unintentional, and like I said, these are just base colours so the end result will look much different.

Fashion wise, I went for some medieval-ish fantasy style. I was tempted by Baroque fashions but decided that my Snow White prince was already quite Baroque-ish, so I went back to my love for medieval fashions. Haven't drawn long flared sleeves for a very long time.

As for the beast, well... this happened, thus far. I really can't draw "monsters", I'm more into sexy hunks...   But, he might also change appearance before the end...   As for the horns, dunno, I just like horns. They're not scary, don't even represent evil to me, I just happen to like them. And I think they somewhat represent physical strength, hence the Beast has horns. Of all places, took my reference cues from Dragon Age Inquisition game, from their Qunari warriors. (Awesome game that.) And, my beast will have a golden mask over his face to hide most of his hideousness (really an excuse for my poor beasty-drawing-skills)...

All in all, this will be quite dark in mood and colours. The background gives some indication of what is to come.

I really love the details on the Beast's outfit, they make him look very regal and mysterious at the same time. This entire picture kind of reminds me of a medieval tapestry.

It is wonderful! Especially the colours of Belle's outfit - so pleasant shades looking so nice together! Always thought that white/grey/silver and pale blue would be a good choice for Belle, instead of the bright golden yellow that Disney put her in in its film. And plus you found a lovely shade of dusty dawn pink to add its own elegance. Altogether, it looks like a dainty porcelain statuette, a bit cold and detached perhaps, but graceful and refined.
Your brocade pattern fits here so well! As to the fashion, it appears you went with Early Renaissance after all, and it is splendid, because it is not the same as "simply" medieval fashion .

As to the horns, I do not see them as anything evil either. Mostly because it reminds me of Horned Lord and his Lady, a couple of nature/forest deities from Andre Norton's fantasy novel "Horn Crown". Have you ever happened to read any of her books? If not, I think you would have liked them, a kind of Celtic and medieval mix setted in fantasy worlds, with magic being posessed mostly by females (one of the cycles is titled "Witch world").

Yes, I also never quite liked the yellow dress in the Disney version, but I suppose it fits the Disney Belle colour scheme.
My main aim in this picture was to make the Beauty as an opposite of the Beast, him being dark and perhaps a little ominous, and her being like a ray of daylight, all pure and somewhat innocent. After all, opposites attract each other, don't they?
Haven't really ever worked with very pale pastel-like colours so this gown was a challenge not to make it too dark. I've already done some shading but have tried to keep it to a minimum. And yes, her dress design is more renaissance than medieval, maybe a mix of both.

By the way, I've already changed the Beast's horns into a more ram-like shape rather than this bull-shape. Not very fond of cows or bulls, so they are no more curved and a little larger. They look better.
But you'll have to wait until the finished pic to see them. I won't post anymore in-between pics.

No, haven't read any of those books. I think I've heard of them though. I have read so little lately, for the past 5 years now. Mainly focused on drawing and writing on my own. But I do know of the Celtic horned god of the woods. He was my main inspiration for this Beast.

You are always welcome .

Once I read about the colour symbolism that they put into that film. Belle's village outfit is blue what should mean her sadness and loneliness, and her ballgown is bright yellow what means joy. While it does make sense, there is a negative side too. You cannot make a picture of a girl in a fluffy yellow dress without everybody saying "Oh, it is Disney's Belle!".

I like how you describe Belle and the Beast as opposites, it is what they were meant to be in the fairytale. By the way, do you have your own version of this fairytale?
As to the pastel colours, you handle them perfectly. And somehow I always thought that your refined heroines (besides, many of them are blondes) would look good in pastel shades.

What about Andre Norton's books, it appears they have the most things that you say you like - they are mainly fantasy (sometimes mixed with science/space fiction); quite Celtic-inspired with references to nature magic; there are dragons and other magical beings; ideas about gender, rase and any other equality play an important part; magic is possessed mainly by women, somewhere they are persecuted for that, but in other worlds they are in privileged position and despise men for lacking magical abilities (and it is the man who should gain their respect and the right to use magic)... Actually there is too many good points to name. Her books are definitely among my favourites in fantasy genre.
