Description I seem to be drawing a lot these days... -.-' ...though I started this a while back and really lost interest in finishing it. I've forgotten how to paint in watercolors!!!!! *wail* I've been working on miniatures in gouache for so, so long that I've forgotten how to paint normally. *blames it all on the paper and the weird rainy weather* (Why do I always try to paint in monsoons?)

Medium: Watercolors on cream Bockingford 300g/m (its the cream! it be eeeevilll! >.> )
Time: A week (random hours)? (lost count?)

I was actually going through my ooold, ooold paintings when I chanced across one of an abandoned railway station (I made it almost 10 years ago [link] ). It's the railway station here, which was never ever used. Originally the city's plan included a railway line that would have gone by the base of the hills and circled the whole city, but somehow it never happened.

Anyways, that made me want to make a new railway station pic, and tada! Originally there was going to be a train... but it got cancelled out. Then there was the platform edge. But that got kicked out too. (And so now they look like they're just waiting for the bus or something... >.>' Kweh...)

Random boring story behind the pic: (I'm very boring. When I get stuck on one idea, I make loads of stuff on it until I bore people to death. XD) To make the new type of airship the High Priestess had asked for, she sends out her knights and calls back her alchemists, to go and get the orbs needed for it somehow.

Meh... does that show over here? Noooooo... (and do we still see any trace of an airship? Nooooooo......)

From left to right:

Luc - alchemist, the former thief/singer priest, (to Harmonie, to get the orbs from the gods of wind, earth and fire)
Gaius - alchemist, Veniti's apprentice (going to Basonia to get the engineers)
Mia - Gaius' guardian and adopted 'daughter' (and his philosopher's stone) (she'll follow her father ^_^)

[Luc and Gaius were in Filmar when they were told to come back. On their way was the quuuiiieet town of Mimrar where only one train came once a week ^_^]

The Guardian Knights:
Lancel - the beserker of the knights (steal the orb! to Toile)
Oghma - the strategist (steal the orb! to Toile)
Siam - archer of the knights (steal the orb!)
Fenrir - captain of the knights [and overall flirt] (steal the orb!)

[It's a long way to Toile, and they're going under the pretense of visiting Oghma's family to steal the orb]

Yes... the painting's horrid. If you survived the bad description, I'd love criticism!

I love the singing crows! XD and Gaius and Mia together are so cute

I don't think I remember Lancel and Siam... is this the first time you uploaded a pic with them to dA?

other than that... I can't believe you painted that linked picture 10 years ago! How old where you then, 12, 13? You're amazing @_@

Yakra In reply to ScatterbrainFox [2006-09-19 10:52:54 +0000 UTC]

I think this is the first time I'm showing something with Siam and Lancel in it. Somehow... I never end up completing anything with meh other four queen's knights/guardian knights in it. They just remain so, so rough that they don't even make it to the scraps!

Yip, I must have been 13 when I made that old pic. It's amazing? I thought so back then I'm sure, *big head* but now that I look at other 14 year olds here on DA... kweh! They're far better than what I am even now!

XD...I didn't even notice them at first, but I think the best part has to be the birds singing on the signpost...it's so fun-ly random. heee...

All the little thought/action bubbles with each character are great. It makes the picture a little more cartoony and also really fun to look close at for a while. Fenrir looks as attractive as ever...though I think Luc is becoming more and more my favorite...love his happy/carefree/daydreamy look here. ^_____^ And his robe with all the stars and moons. <3
The frillyness of the birds too, and the cat poking into Lancel's bag, and Mia's dress (and, err, does she have a tail?), and Fenrir's flowers, and the detail on his boots and jacket is wow...and yeah, there's so much stuff in this pic to just love! ^^

Also, the idea of the train station both in this picture and your older one. There's something romantic (in the genre sense of the word) about an abandoned train station...or even just those little stations in the small towns or out in the middle of nowhere. They always make me feel a little longing and lonely, but mostly like something important is about to happen...and yeah...anyway, so I guess there's something both deep and lighthearted about the picture and mostly I just love it so very much. ^_^

The birds are my DoReMi elves! XD *gets shot by suiko fans*

I really got bored by the time I reached Fen's jacket and he just got one flat wash. Em... when the color dried I realized it was same shade as his skin! Ah well... as long as you think its ok!

Poor Luc, I seem to be making him more and more wishy washy dreamy (if that makes any sense at all!).

I love train stations too. All sorts! Abandoned, busy, small ones, even train bridges! Unfortunately though, I've never been on a train. I can't figure out why I'm so obsessed with train stations...

just-joey In reply to Yakra [2006-08-30 03:42:53 +0000 UTC]

Emm...I guess I see that. I really wouldn't have noticed a flat wash though unless you had said something. Really, I was just way impressed with the detail in it...I think that brings it out and gives it some relief in that way. And it's still distinguishable from the skin, so no worries there.

And yeah, I've noticed Luc getting more dreamy...more smiley and such too. Maybe that's why I been noticing him more tho...or maybe just because I've been finding out more of his story and it's so very interesting.

I love taking trains myself...though they're not very practical over here in the States...I wish they were. T_T

Hee! Very very nicely done this picture, it does have a train station feel to it. Almost like these people are very diffrent but have been brought together in waiting for a train. I have a question however, it's about the train station painting you linked - the one you drew 10 years ago. The station is called Margala? The reason Im mentioning this, is because you've wrote the name in Urdu/Arabic and I could read it!! ^____^=

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Yakra In reply to aliachan [2006-08-20 10:01:17 +0000 UTC]

Ah well... the train station from 10 years ago is a real one. There's an abandoned train station here in Islamabad (and the only one) called Margala Train Station (named after the hills, since you specifically asked about margala ). Somehow... I wanted to take something that is very real and actually exists near me and put it in meh world. Mimrar Train Station obviously does not exist.

aliachan In reply to Yakra [2006-08-24 06:35:22 +0000 UTC]

I say holiday, I have family out there- so there's always reason to go back! The thing I like about Pakistan is that you can get alot of things for cheap compared to England, I mainly shop in Rawalpindi when I do go- alot of hustle bustle there!

Yakra In reply to aliachan [2006-08-25 09:32:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh my... are you pakistani or have any pakistani relatives? (not that it would be strange if you weren't or didn't as half my neighbours aren't! >.< Em... I've hardly ever gone to Rawalpindi. (shame on me!) I'm a total quiet recluse and I hate bustling places! XD And rawalpindi is the ultimate in bustle-ness!

And aww Gaius and his daughter was first thing I noticed! XD The teaching 'magic' is so cute XD
And his huge hat is cool XD

Wow...they all even look their jobs very well!!!!! O_O
Lancel definately looks the most knioghtish ^^ And the kitty so cute T_T

Oghma defiantely looks strategist..very wise looking!! Must be the hair ..reminds me of Shu! XD

And must be the elven stereotype that made me think of Siam as archer XD She has cute ears~ and awwwww what a disgruntled look XDXD

and lol.......Fenrir definately look slike a flirt XD arm around Siam and the trenchcoat and all XD I think his hair and overall awesome look makes him appear captainish! XD

Yakra In reply to EvilTelephone [2006-08-17 10:30:04 +0000 UTC]

I think I'm starting to think of Luc as the overly sweet birdy type of person too much these days. XD *poor Luc suffers from having oevr sweetness dumped upon him!*

Heh heh... now that you mention it, Oghma does remind one a bit of Shu. *ish happy - loved Shu!* Though when I first thought of him, he was sort of based upon Zhou Yu. (Kweh... I think I stuffed all the Zhou Yu-ness into him, minus the death XD)

Lancel looks knightly?! I was worried that he actually looked the least knightly of them all!

Thanks a lot! You just made me feel a lot better about all meh charries! ^_^

arashi-yukawa In reply to Yakra [2006-08-14 11:48:41 +0000 UTC]

watercolor pencils are not so different from regular color pencils, but they are softer I guess...

watercolor markers? what are those?

Yakra In reply to arashi-yukawa [2006-08-14 12:10:56 +0000 UTC]

Im.... I guess you use them just like watercolor pencils? Like color and then wet. Not as incredibly impressive as I thought they would be. XD The color refused to follow my directions and went all wayward.
