Description I got my very first Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game, Red Rescue Team on December 24th 2006. It's been ten years, and I've never been same after that. It was the first and so far only Pokémon side game series I've gotten into and my love for it has only grown as the years passed. Now, to show my love for those games, I've picked my favorite moment/soundtrack from each game in the series.

Summer 2009...I think it was summer 2009? Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was that. Only months after I got my first DS (around april 2009) I got my second game on it. I purchased Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time while our family was on a trip in Lapland. We even visited Santa Claus's village (because Santa is from Finland!) but I didn't get to see Santa because I was too busy playing my new game. Not that I regret it, but...
Now that we have four main Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, I can say that this is my least favorite of them. But! I don't hate this game, far from it: I like it like I do the other games, but this never had a such huge impact on me as the others had. Fourth generation in Pokémon is in general my least favorite, and this game is no exception. And the fact how overrated this game is might've something to do with my opinion over it. Explorers of Sky had some neat additions with the special episodes (probably the best feature in the game in my opinion) and the Shaymin quest.
That being said, I had some difficulties picking a favorite scene/music from this game because nothing never stood out so much for me. While I've drew this scene two times before, I decided to go with it anyway because of how memorable it is. Also, this was the point of the game when I realized something: at first I thought Grovyle was a bad guy and I didn't like him much. But as the game went on, I learned more about him and eventually we became allies. Then this scene happened, and it struck me - I cared about Grovyle. He was my friend on this journey, and seeing him go like that left me little empty inside.

The team here is obviously not any of my ingame teams, but just a small team I came up with long time ago. The team consists a Poochyena (leader) and Charmander (partner). For some reason I prefer drawing this team in anything related to Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky.

mmh, i've read the descriptions in all of your pmd pics (art is gorgeous as always!) and it's funny how we actually have an opposite view of these games: explorers of sky is my absolute favourite, while gates to infinity is my least favourite.
given, gti is the only pmd game i haven't played, but i watched a let's play of it twice, and while i liked it more the second time, it still isn't en par with the others imo. i'm still not used to the 3d models (even though they look much better in smd), the story is all right, but other than keldeo and virizion (and gurdurr maybe), the characters seem kinda flat. the dungeons also weren't that memorable.
explorers of sky on the other hand did everything perfectly imo, so i won't talk much about it. maybe it's because i liked gen 4 a lot (it's probably my favourite aside from gen 3, but purely for nostalgic reasons), and saying you don't like it because it's overrated isn't really saying much imo. still, i just thought it's funny. i didn't even play this game upon release, only later on, but it still captured me. my first pmd game was still blue rescue team, and while it didn't age too well, it's still a blast to play. pmd in general is just a franchise that i may or may not like more than the main games.

this pic is still beautiful though. what i actually like the most in this picture is how you did the stone background, the staircase, wall and floor. looks really withered and old. it's impressive

I liked the Explorers alright, it just never struck me as strongly as the other Mystery Dungeon games. After seeing over the years how people make it like it's the best thing ever and GtI the worst just rubs me the wrong way - Gates to Infinity is the only game in the series so far that has made me legit cry (like three times during my first playthrough), I loved the story, and the characters felt so smart, alive and they had so much good interaction and cutscenes only for them interacting -which I absolutely loved. In Explorers the closest thing like that was the five special episodes in Sky (which I loved) but the thing is, there was only five of those while the game had a lot characters with no depth.
The soundtrack of Explorers was also "nice" in my opinion, there are few tracks which I liked more than that but it's not really much compared to the fact Explorers of Sky had like 120 tracks in the soundtrack. Meanwhile, I love soundtracks in GtI and PSMD as whole, there are not many weak tracks in my opinion.

I played Explorers of Sky last time three years ago, and I have never bothered completing some of the hardest dungeons in it. I'm not just that interesting (meanwhile, I've completed Purity Forest in Red Rescue Team twice).

...sorry for the rant, but you started it

i can understand that. gti isn't the best thing ever imo, but it's still bad how some people make it seem like it's unplayable. it puts off people from even giving it a chance, simply because of this unwarranted hate it gets. i don't like it as much as the other pmd titles, but it's still an excellent game.
no pmd has actually made me cry (i mean, as feelsy and memorable the goodbye in pmd 2 is, it's still incredibly cheesy, and the hero being so emotionless throughout the game always bothered me). in gti, i feel like they tried developing the side characters as best as they could, but aside from the keldeo/virizon friendship, they seemed a bit too tropey for me. given, most pokemon in pmd 2 were kinda too, but they tried to force the friendship theme too hard in gti sometimes.
i got to admit that i can't remember much about gti music, other than the goodbye theme (which is beautiful). on the other hand, i'm very attached to the music in pmd 1 and 2, especially the battle theme for primal dialga, which is my favourite ost in the entire series.

lol i've had enough of a hard time completing the post game in explorers of sky, i never bothered with the very hard dungeons. heck, up until last year i didn't even know just how extensive the post game in blue rescue team was, let alone what happens to gengar and gardevoir :'D

no prob, i ranted back, and this is for fun

This is a beautiful piece! I love your art style, and I think you've captured one of the game's most intense moments perfectly!

Generation four has always held a lot of enjoyment for me, so perhaps that is why I love the Explorers games so much. I don't know, I don't really have a favorite PMD games- I like certain aspects of each of them and don't like others.

Oh my gosh one of the most memorable scenes.  I cried the first time grovyle sacrificed himself.  Sky version was better with the added side story but still emotional nonetheless

I remember playing through my time and using an AR to change my partner poke of Treecko (after learning absorb) to a Mightyena and myself from Cyndaquil to Quilava. Back then, I was really into FireyPackShipping, and wanted to play the game as such

I REMEMBER THIS PART OMG. Ohhh those Sableye took FOREVER to kill between my Eevee Leader and Vulpix partner and then it 'still' wasn't over. And then Grovyle dissapeared into the future forever...

Never played the game, but I get the feeling that was a very dramatic scene, right?
