I guess it's just a fun easter egg for those of us who like to go around and look at everything instead of actually saving the princess. Poor Zelda... Maybe if these games weren't so fun to goof off in she'd get saved faster.

Plus, did you know that there is 100 rupees behind your sword master's house in Ordon valley, and above the route to the Gorons in Kakariko village? Try using a chicken and/or your boomerang...

Glad you caught that, but that's not the only thing there (bread you can't afford, and apples that you can't have). Also, the flower probably reminded him of Illia and the Ordon valley.
