Australia x Reader - Dangerous Animals

Art class.
Depending on who you are, Art class is either awesome or torture.
The awesome/torture balance also depended on how imaginative you were feeling that day.

_______ was not feeling imaginative. Today, Art class was torture.

'So, sheila, how're you doing?'

'Shut up! I'm trying to concentrate!'

Ahh yes, another thing that was making Art class torture.
Jack Kirkland - polite, charming, cute, well-built and has a sexy accent.
The boy every girl in the school seemed to want.
Except, perhaps, _______.
She didn't hang off of his arm or act like a love-struck fool whenever he was around or fangirl over him like all the other girls (and some of the guys).
No, she was cool, calm and collected. She wasn't interested in Jack's popularity, not interested in making him out to be some kind of god when he was as human as her and not interested in treating him anything short of normal.
Which was why Jack liked her so much.

Now, Jack was quite open about his love for _______ and at first, _______ had resisted his charms but after awhile she found herself falling -or more like slipping- in love with Jack and she just knew he knew it too.

So here she was, in Art class, with Jack sitting as close to her as possible, talking animatedly about Australia, his homeland.
As far as she could tell, there didn't seem to be one animal in Australia that didn't, or couldn't, kill you.
However, none of this was helping _______ with her assignment in Art.
The teacher had told everyone to '...use your imaginations! Paint or draw something that is imaginative, perhaps thoughtful, show me what is on your mind, what you are feeling! The best piece will be displayed in the main hall.'

One colossal problem: _______ had no clue what to paint. It was 20 minutes into the lesson and all _______ had was a blank, empty canvas. Which was exactly how she felt at the moment.

'You gonna paint anythin' on there? Or are ya gonna keep starin' at it?'

'Jack seriously! I'm about to punch you! I can't think!'

'Oh? Do I distract you, shelia?'

Jack was grinning from ear to ear as he looked over at her, his emerald green eyes glittering with amusement. _______ felt her face flush slightly but remained exasperated.

'Stfu! Let me paint in peace!'

'Oh you're meant to be paintin'. I thought you were just gonna burn a hole through the canvas, the way you been glaring at it.' He said playfully, sniggering a bit.

_______ punched him on the arm.

'Oww, that was a mean punch shelia!'

'Take it like a man!'

Unfortunately, at that moment the Art teacher passed by.
'Less fighting please, more working. _______, would you like to explain to the class why you have a completely blank canvas?'

Everyone went silent. Well, almost silent. Some people were sniggering quietly. Everyone was, however, staring at her.
_______ blushed in embarrassment and shifted in her seat, wishing the ground would open up and kill everyone in the room. Hay, she wanted to live.

'It's, er, it's a...a...p-portrait!'

Her Art teacher was looking at her with an eyebrow raised but _______ could see a tiny twinkle of amusement in his eyes so she threw caution to the wind and plowed on with the lamest excuse in history.

'O-of... It's a portrait of...'
Inspiration suddenly struck her.

'It's a portrait of all the animals in Australia that don't kill you. I was just painting them in before I did the background.'

Momentary silence. Then Jack started roaring with laughter, the class soon joining in.
The Art teacher smirked in suppressed laughter but otherwise kept a straight face.

'Make sure you have the background painted by the end of the lesson, Miss _______.'

Well, at least _______ knew what she was going to paint now. The Australian outback.
As soon as the teacher wandered off, Jack turned to _______ grinning from ear to ear.

'Sooo, shelia...I guess I'm all you can think about, huh?'
And he winked at her.

'....Go to hell, Jack! This is your fault! But at least I know what to paint now so...thanks.'

'Why'ya thanking me?' He asked, confused. It was _______'s turn to grin.

'Thanks for talking through the whole lesson so far and telling me all about Australia. If you hadn't, I would never have known how many dangerous animals live there.'

Jack laughed again and slung an arm around her.

'Anything for my shelia!'

He nuzzled the side of her head affectionately. She allowed herself to lean into his touch and smiled.

'Now Jack, tell me what the outback looks like.'

'With pleasure, _______.'

'No shelia, you need more greenery. Most people assume it's like a desert but it isn't, it has far more greenery than people think it does -'

'Jack?'

'Yes shelia?'

'You can shut up now. Before I punch you again.'

'You know you love me, _______~'

'That may be so but it doesn't stop me from punching you.'
