Description Probably the most famous and popular car ever built Fiat. These little cars never really caught on here in the States, but in Europe, they were everywhere. I actually owned a Fiat for a while when I was in high school, a 600D, it was a little bigger than the 500, but not much.

The owner of this little car had to be at least 6'8" tall, he looked like a giant in comparison and I for the life of me can not figure out how he got into the car let alone drive.

Taken at Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix car show at PPG Place in Pittsburgh.

That's definitely a "love it or hate it" car -- there is no "on the fence" about that car. Having never experienced driving one, the appearance is a bit off-putting for me. The new ones look very similar to this. This car also reminds me of the Mini Cooper. I guess you have to experience it in order to love it.

Yeah, it's an acquired taste. Never drove one on a highway just on local street and farm roads, it was a fun little car, much like VW Beetle. That's like my Jeeps, they aren't for everybody, but I love driving them.
Thanks for the comment!

I love those little old 500 and 600 Fiats from the late 50's and 60's. The first one I ever saw was a 600, white with red interior, at the high school where I was at the time. There was something so frivolous and playful about it, so light-hearted and fun, that I've fondly remembered it and its kin ever since.

They were great little cars. The 600D that I had was originally light blue, I painted bright orange. I learned to drive it when I was 14. Those cars were toy like.

He probably drives it the same way my dad drove his, with his head sticking out of the sunroof

No doubt, but I have a picture of the guy standing next to it and it just doesn't look possible.

Ironically, my 600D was this same color. I wish I would have kept that little car too.

Cool! (Too bad about the blown engine) I'll bet that little thing was quick. I guess sometime soon now that Fiat is part of the Chrysler Owners Group, we will start seeing Fiats again over here again. The new 500 is real cool and they have a Abarth edition in Europe that is a screamer! [link]

That's about the only color they don't have, you can go on their web site and build one that will make you smile! Somehow, someway I got a get one. [link]
I went with a black sport with 16" wheels.
