Description Here I'm working on a christmas present for my sister Sophie. Like me, she loves horses and we both love the movie "War Horse" so I wanted to draw this picture for her. This is the sketch of Albert and his horse Joey which are the main characters from the movie.
Horses is actually one of first things that I drew when I started with realism, but after that I've been working on a lot of portraits so it feels good to go back to horses and since I've gotten more developed in realistic drawing, hopefully I draw even better horses now.

Hope you enjoy this sketch and keep your eyes open for the finished result!

Time: around 5hours sketching
Tools: Ruler, 2H graphite, eraser and kneaded eraser
Paper: 250g/m2 Canson Bristol

Lovely. I think some of the confusion over the media you draw these in is due to scanners having a strange effect on graphite. They can really suck the life out of your pencils.

Thank you! Well, I have to do a few adjustments in photoshop since my scanner makes my drawings to bright so I have to darken them up so the details in the drawing will appear especially on my sketches since they don't have that much contrast. :/

Yeah, and obviously it's worse for those of us who use 2H. I basically just duplicate the image a couple of times and set them to multiply. The impressive detail in your drawings help give the idea that there's much more to them than a crude scan though, so that helps.

Lovely picture. Β Haven't seen the film as yet, but it is one of those on my to-watch list whenever I get the opportunity one day
