Description In Nara, you certainly start feeling like a deer deity once you've got some deer biscuits in your hand! They'll all flock towards you and will nuzzle you 'till you give them a biscuit!

You can see a video that I took here: [link]

...Oops, I forgot to suck my stomach in. Bwahahahaha.

There use to be a cemetery (yes, a cemetery) around here that had tame deer and geese you could pet, reminds me of that.

Oh I love cemeteries, and it's nice when there's fun stuff to do in them

(I know it may sound OH SO GAWTH to love cemeteries, but over here many cemeteries are referred to as "Memorial Parks" where people can come and have picnics.)

I don't think it's creepy personally but we're kind of weird about death over here (USA) I think.

yapi In reply to Ocyla [2010-10-04 18:44:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Like children in the US have to be "talked to" about death and that there are books and Sesame Street TV specials to tell them about it. I found it kinda surprising. I've always known about death, that I can't even remember my first encounter with it because it's just natural knowledge to me. Same goes for most children in this country.

My family was always vague about natural things like that, either covering it up with religion ("they are in heaven now") or just avoiding the subject :/ I think there's a lot of that here in general.

Really? What's the rational behind not letting your kids know about death?

Just a week ago my sister-in-law's uncle died, and when she was leaving for the wake, my nephew asked where she was going. We just told him, "Oh, you remember uncle so-and-so? He died". And he was just like, "Oh, okay."

I also went to a lot of funerals when I was a little kid. And I being carried over the coffin before it's buried, as part of the tradition. All the little kids (little enough to be carried) are passed over the dead body so that the spirit doesn't follow them home.

And like I said, we like to have picnics at cemeteries. During Day of the Dead many people spend the night at their loved ones' graves/mausoleums. This is my family's mausoleum: [link] (That's my grandpa in the place of honor in the middle. When I die I'm just gonna either be buried to the side or be cremated and placed in one of the marble boxes )

I think we like to pretend that 'bad' things just don't happen. "It just happens to everything and everyone" isn't happy enough, I guess. Bizarre! Maybe it was just my family; my mom use to visit the cemetery on a regular basis and my dad thought she was really weird to even do that.

That makes it even harder to deal with when it does happen to you, though! I dunno, I'd rather be emotionally prepared =/ It's hard enough dealing with stuff when you know what's coming, I can't imagine how painful things would be when you get a sudden slap of reality in the face.

With all the foresty animals and stuff it kinda reminds me of Princess Mononoke.

Only the animals are being themselves as hungry tempted little devils.
