That is so awseome!!!!The quarry and the caves by Quez Roost remind me of the redwall maps (like you said).
It's awesome to hear that you're writing your own book!!! Could you note me the first chapter when it's finished? Or are you saving it till it's published?

Thank you,
The Quarry and Roost holes probably do look a little Redwall-ish, as I was using those maps to help decide the look of this piece.
I rather wait until everything is finished before showing any bit of it to anyone. Things tend to change, for example I'm currently re-writing the first chapter to make it fit with something that happens futher on (ad to correct things that don't make sense).

When i first saw the thumbnail I instantly thought "This reminds me of Redwall!" The detailing in the map is awesome, and the names are good too. I've only skimmed a few pages of Lord of the Rings and didn't really care for it, being twelve and all. But I'm thinking of going back to it. I know the general story but could you give me a little something more about it, please.

Yeah, I was using various maps in fantasy books for help when painting this (Redwall being one of them)
"I know the general story but could you give me a little something more about it, please"
You mean Lord of the Rings?
I must admit I did have a good stab at reading the Fellowship when I was your age, but stopped (for some reason) towards the end.

Oh sorry, I made a mistake. I meant to say The Hobbit. Looking back I did like the fantasy aspect of it, but it just went over my head and i put it down. But yes, could you tell me about Lord of the Rings.

Do you want the whole plot or something? Wouldn't it be easier to look it up on Wikipedia?
Anyway, I can't vouch for the books for I haven't read them in years and cannot really remember them. The films are good though, especially the extended versions.

No, just really if it's worth reading.

Well, its a classic. I suppose it would not have gotten to be so if it was not worth reading. The books are on no accounts perfect (nothing is) but being one of the most fruitfull trees to grow in the fantasy orchard must account for something. I suppose it amounts to how much you are willing to dedicate to them.

Ok, thanks. I'll think about trying it out again.

I though Avatar was pretty good (in terms of the eye candy) but it was a pretty cleche story (ala dancing with wolves ect). I find allot of stuff now is cleche, like no one can think of anything new or out of the box. I think GEORGE RR MARTIN'S Game of Thrones is a great piece of fantasy because it isn't the lord of the rings or dungeons and dragons where you go on a quest and save the world and defeat the stereotypical dark lord. Lord of the rings is great because it's a classic, but after that so many authors tried to write like Lord of the Rings which isn't going to happen ... and Game of Thrones its mature in the way it presents itself. People need to stop being so narrow minded when it comes to movies and actually allow something creative to be on the big screen. There are way to many mindless action movies. Sure they may have a good story to tell, but is it something I'm going to think about a month from now? Most are not. Sorry for the rant (lol). I want to be different with my book, but I don't want to do it to be rich cause thats a one percent occurance, I just want tell a different story from most others.

Odd thing is I like the Avatar story, despite the cleche-ness, but the creature designs got on my nerves. I can understand that the Navi had to look human-ish so an audience can relate to them. They could have been more inventive than just adding an extra pair of legs and eyes, what are estianlly, fantasy versions of horses, jackels, jaguars, dragons, monkeys ect. It was just a bit distracting, especially when they made a recognisable hyena noises or the noise the raptors made in Jurassic Park. They could have been a lot more creative with the anatomy and creature designs, cosidering this is an alien planet.
Yeah, I like Game of Thrones, its nice that you don't really know where its going.
I am also trying to different with my book, and I too am writing it because its a story I want to tell, not because I want to get rich off it. I think its good your doing the same.

Awsome map. I like sci fi novels, and I agree that they translate better on film because of the effects. Currently in the process of making my own fantasy book for fun. The names are a pain though.

I agree with the sci-fi films, though the creatures sometimes are a bit of a disspointment *cough*Avatar*cough*.
Good luck with your fantasy book! I must admit I too can sometimes find it hard to come up with names. It sometimes help to look a real-world names for inspiration. For example, this country is called Fëylonn, after the dragon in Chinese mythology Feilong, for dragons were the dominant species. I have another country called Bron, named after the rhino-like Brontotherium, because I thought the country looked like a Rhino's head.
And thanks for the comments.
