Is she fully sapient with human level intelligence? Or just acting out her programming?

She is arguably more intelligent then a human in some ways.
The moral conflict isn’t in her ability to think as a true person, (she has a soul, etc.) but what she does with that free will.
Other then her basic programmed ability’s to speak and operate normally, everything she does is up to her. Some personality traits are somewhat of a preset function though. She is inherently shy, timid, and not at all confident. (So despite being a glorified sex doll, she has no interest in those things)
her maker did design her to be this way, as the intent was never to make Ali an actually loyal bot (again, Ali was secretly designed to appease someone else entirely without anyone but the maker knowing.)
On my profile, the favorites section has an art peice called Salem (the similar looking machine) who is supposed to be Ali’s girlfriend. They have a cool romance
So in summary, Ali has some designed functions, but is fully capable of doing whatever she wants. (She even chooses to be loyal to her maker, despite being horribly abused. At least until certain events changed that)
If you have any further questions just ask em, I am currently writing a novel on these characters. (no, this commision was not commercial)

So those "designed functions" could be seen as the equivalent of hypnotic suggestions in a natural biological species?

Or more like instincts and natural reactions.(for example, most life doesn’t want to die horribly and defends itself. And if it doesn’t, it still usually wants to further it’s overall species survival) Ali herself is so terrified of dying, that she goes to absurd lengths to be willing to live. (Like somewhat of a ptsd function) This is “debatably” a design function ment to oppose the being she is supposed to appeal to (as in create a moral argument since Ali’s girlfriend does not value life, while Ali does) she is actually one of the few characters to never consider suicide or other violent acts despite having the most gruesome past.
For machines, this is all a bit akward because they are built to be fully mature (as in already fully capable adults) yet still childish in what they haven’t been programmed to know or do.
A lot of my novel talks about this strange debate around machines and their morality/what they do with their morality.
Other characters have to deal with their designed ability to kill and murder. And wether or not they should actually do it.(when their very good at doing it and solving issues by doing it) some characters have to deal with being designed with no gender or real identity other then what their built for. (like a sweeping bot or a murder bot, who have no clear identity)
Ali is somewhat of an anomaly here because she represents purity and goodwill, despite having every reason to be otherwise. (So many other characters justify violent actions by what has happened to them) although I would say she struggles with being designed to appeal to others, while showing clear signs of restraint and decency. (Most of the time she gives in and ends up loving beings who will hurt her in horrible ways)
But yea. For Ali, (and a lot of other characters) this whole scenario is all about being able to do something, and the choices around that ability.
Oh btw here’s a link to a pic of Ali’s creator. (She’s also pretty )

If you didn’t see Salem, (Ali’s girlfriend) here she is again

The reason I said hypnotic suggestions is that she IS made by humans(?),
so a "natural instinct" to please a specific person couldn't really be a natural thing.
Though, I suppose they programmed "true love" into her, or rather made that specific person her internal picture of ideal mate? XD
But yeah, it's difficult to talk about morality in true AI lifeforms.
Then again, if they are a fully capable of being, as free as a human being,
any controlling programming would atleast be morally questionable.
Well any truly free being could potentially kill and murder, be it AI or other wise.
Do true AI creators have the right to call themselves a god?
At any rate, I'll just leave it at that and that she's quite beautiful as is her creator ^^'
