Did anyone find that string of Latin a little odd?
A simple error in her filing system, and an enormous fish tale on the part of the little mermaid turns the sea witch into an ambitious, conniving villain.. Poor unfortunate soul..

Ambitious conniving villainous Witches are the spice of life. What dull, unlivable world it would be if sinister Sorceresses of the sea and elsewhere were not stepping on stacks of mere mortals to get ahead. i feat that silly Mr Disney has created a most disturbing aura around the Femme Fatale.

You might enjoy a book called "the witch must die" by Sheldon Cashdan... fairytales and psychoanalysis that goes way beyond Mr Disney. very interesting stuff.
